Historia
Reiko, empress of Japan, has allied herself with Princess Órlaith, heir to the High Kingdom of Montival, to find the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the Grass-Cutting Sword, a legendary treasure of an ancient dynasty that confers valor and victory to its bearer. Órlaith understands all too well the power it signifies. Her own inherited blade, the Sword of the Lady, was both a burden and a danger to her father, Rudi Mackenzie, as it failed to save the king from being assassinated.

The narrator does accents, animal sounds and sound effec really well…even if his pronunciation is not the greatest. I’ve been listening since dies the fire and it’s never been great but pronouncing the s in viscount really bothered me lol.

Derek Perkins could read the dictionary and make it interesting. Combined with great writing like this and it makes for a great time.

Historia
If there were two more impetuous and carefree men in the Kingdom of the Isles, they had yet to be found. Twins Borric and Erland wore that mantle proudly, much to the chagrin of their father, Prince Arutha of Krondor. But their blissful youth has come to an end. Their uncle, the king, has produced no male children. Bypassing himself, Arutha names Borric, the eldest twin by seconds, the royal heir. As his brother, Erland will have his own great responsibilities to shoulder.

Gargling rocks
Revisado: 11-10-22
Peter Joyce sounds like he is gargling rocks when he does other voices. It’s really hard to listen to. That and he pronounced a lot of the names differently than Nicolas Guy Smith. I won’t go as far as ti say they were mispronounced… but you get used to hearing it a certain way when you listen to the rift war saga books. Good book . However, it seemed to be lacking some of the greatness of the rift war saga and empire trilogy… of course that could’ve been because I pictured frog people when Peter Joyce spoke. Buy this one (second hand) and read it, or don’t.

Better description
Revisado: 10-13-22
This book deserves a much better description. This is 30 hours of brutal killing and plottting and heartbreak and triumph… watching the world of Kelewan as it intermingles with the world of Midkemia…. as Mara continues her struggle to bring her house back to greatness, while learning that the good of the empire might be more important than honor. Superbly told by Tania Rodrigues

Good listen
Revisado: 10-09-22
I was used to Nicolas Guy Smith who did a great Job narrating The Riftwar Saga books but Tania Rodrigues did a really good job of bringing the characters to life. It was really interesting seeing what life is like in the Empire. I was a little surprised there wasn’t more about magic and the great ones, but there was plenty of suspense and drama, mystery and intrigue. Reading the Riftwar Saga first helped, having been familiar with the alien planet and ways, and a lot of the names. However, since it is all new characters and a different plot line, having little to do with Midkemia and the Riftwar, I’m not sure it’s necessary. I highly recommend reading Daughter of the Empire (and The Riftwar Saga!). Looking forward to reading the rest of the Empire Trilogy!
