Historia
Bastian Bishop. That’s his name. He’s rough, rugged, and utterly unpredictable. He’s not cautious or contemplative. He’s a volcano. Silent and steady one second, and a nightmare in the next. But that’s not the worst of it. This guy? He’s an outsider, and in my world outsiders don’t belong.

I think this must be a YA book
Revisado: 09-26-23
The characters are all defined by their constant affinity for smirking. Book could not have been written without the word.
Unbelievable story, meaning not believable. These people are all in high school and play acting as gangsters. The heroine is called Rockland and her boyfriend is Bass. Rockland gets a gift from Bass--a collar around her neck not removable. Terrific gift.
Bass sleeps in a closet, glares a lot, and has issues. As we are told, his problems "were not solved by the bullet, or two, he put in his father's head." Rockland also has issues. That were not solved by the knife she put in her bodyguard's stomach. This book is written for teenagers and should be designated Y --without the A.

Historia
Ariel Price wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong. She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can’t fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new—much younger—husband?

one long depressing lecture
Revisado: 06-05-22
This book should win an award for the most negative character in a starring role. The obvious is shoveled at us ad nauseum; men bad, capitalism bad, life bad, social media bad. We are supposed to care that Ariel's husband is kidnapped. One begins to think he just ran away unable to listen to her screed anymore. The author must be having a bad day because he uses this book as vehicle to vent through Ariel spouting one stereotype followed by another. For example, . Ariel used to be interested in fashion, clothes all things superficial, so when she changes her life she chops off her hair, buys a farm and a bookstore. Somehow this is to indicate she is now an evolved person. Sloppy writing and thinking.

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorbs the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their eight-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist.

A therapist, a couple in distress. Sounds like a cliche. This story requires you pay attention as no one is who they purport to be or perhaps they are. Will keep you guessing and listening. Narrators wonderful. Avery series would be great if it doesnt exist already.

Historia
Vermont’s promising young governor, Andrew Kane, is at another public meet-and-greet when a stranger from the crowd slips him a cell phone and whispers, “Keep this with you...keep it secret...you’re going to need it after the arrest.” Hours later, Andrew’s brother, Tyler, is taken into custody - framed for the brutal murder of a young woman - and Andrew discovers there is only one way to free him: answer the mysterious phone and agree to a blackmailer’s demands. All the governor has to do to make it all go away is compromise everything he stands for and grant a full pardon to a convicted felon.

premise is ridiculous. Two law enforcement officials, one a governor, the other in Internal Affairs, are told to do specific illegal things or their younger brother will be framed as a serial killer. The whole story is built on this first ridiculous act. on the part of the brothers. One stupid thing happens after another and I could not wait for this to be over.

The study, led by a renowned psychologist, requires them to wear smart watches that track their moods and movements. When one of the students in the study is found murdered in the psychology building, a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins, and Chloe goes from hunter to prey.

UGH
Revisado: 12-18-21
This story is so unbelievable it was hard to slog on to the end. The premise: A mythical university in DC creates a department to study psychopaths. They provide a scholarship to twin girls who are daughters of a now dead serial killer. Three teenagers, two of whom are in the program, set out to discover who is killing their peers. and why? We never find out the why or the process of the how. Cant believe all the positive reviews. This is basically a YA with the emphasis on Y and not A.

Everything you shouldn't have said
Revisado: 11-20-21
This is a rambling mess of a story with a narrator who speaks as if the listerner is a two year old child. Even speeding it up to 1.5 did not help. Girl leaves town, girl comes back to town. Someone was murdered. Spoiler alert: girl gets pregnant but father never connects birth of child with girl leaving town and suddenly new granddaughter arrives to be raised by girls parents. There is also a murder. The accused is the son of the girls parents and the girls half brother. The murderer is fine for twenty years letting the town believe his son has killed the neighbor. The characters in this novel are unbelievable and the writing in terms of describing leaves and flowers seems to be of high importance to the author. So much so we are left with a verdant landscape and cartoon figures populating the countryside. I did finish it so I could write this review and wonder how some books get five stars or even get published.

Revisado: 10-02-21
I think Moriarity is phoning it in starting with 9 perfect strangers. Hours and hours of dialogue, repeititive but not workth repeating. Whatever thought occurs to the author it emerges unedited through the mouths of several very uninteresting characters who lead dull lives in Sidney, Australia. This is the last of her books I will order. You know it is bad when you just wish everyone would stop talking and you dont care if Joy was murdered, ran away or murdered someone else. This is probably headed to Netflix but I wont be going there either.

Harlan is back with Win
Revisado: 07-05-21
So, Win the third or fourth, finds himself, sans Myron, in the middle of a family mystery. The joy of this book is Win is the narrator--get over it. Weber plays so many different characters in a way that brings them alive with all of their perverse perspectives. The theme might be Win finds love, or even better, "Forget about it. What difference does it make?" You know what I'm sayin'? What? Lots of Brooklyn tones and attitudes and speech patterns. Writing that flows through dialogue in a way that enables the listener/reader to relax knowing there are no false starts, awkward phrases, cliches, or any of the why did I buy this book in the first place reactions. Ten hours in this case was not enough time to spend with Win, Articulate indeed.
