Historia
On October 1, 1993, a 12-year-old girl was kidnapped at knifepoint from her bedroom in Petaluma, California, during a sleepover with two friends, while her mother slept soundly in the room next door. This rarest of all kidnappings—a stranger abduction from the home—triggered one of the largest manhunts in FBI history. New York Times bestselling author Kim Cross has written the first comprehensive account of what happened on that fateful night in October, as well as how the case forever transformed the Bureau’s approach to solving crimes.

Interminable and sexist
Revisado: 07-17-23
Drones on and on, goes into tangents. Listen to the last chapter if you want to know about the murderer. The other 16 hours is a waste of time.
Sexist: A 15-year old girl is repeatedly referred to as ”the prostitute”. Why is the way she makes her living used to define her whole life? A kidnapping of a young woman is described as a ”caper”.
One of the cops is described as having an epiphany; sexworkers are humans. No shit, Sherlock.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

l’m a huge fan but this is wildly disappointing
Revisado: 09-24-22
I would describe it as unreadable, at least the part after the point when the protagonist ends up in the other world. The writing is clunky, the story haphazard, and the dialogue is going nowhwere. I have listened to most of Mr Kings books more than once, and usually enjoy them very much, but this places among the worst, such as Dreamcatcher or Christine.

Historia
On February 24, 1986, 29-year-old newlywed Sherri Rasmussen was murdered in the home she shared with her husband, John. The crime scene suggested a ferocious struggle, and police initially assumed it was a burglary gone awry. Before her death, Sherri had confided to her parents that an ex-girlfriend of John’s, a Los Angeles police officer, had threatened her. The Rasmussens urged the LAPD to investigate the ex-girlfriend, but the original detectives pursued only burglary suspects, and the case went cold.

Could have been a great novel but...
Revisado: 08-12-20
The subject is interesting but the writing is clunky and full of clichees. And the love story is little more than Halequin book intrigue.
Also, I get that you need a narrator who can pronoounce the German words correctly, but you also need one who is able to prononce the English words correctly. This narrator can not.
Very disappointing over all.

On a cold night in January 2001, the idyllic community of Dartmouth College was shattered by the discovery that two of its most beloved professors had been hacked to death in their own home. Investigators searched helplessly for clues linking the victims to their murderer or murderers. A few weeks later, across the river, in the town of Chelsea, Vermont, police cars were spotted in front of the house of a high school senior. Soon, the town discovered the incomprehensible reality that two of Chelsea's brightest and most popular sons, were now fugitives, wanted for the murders.

Just ok
Revisado: 04-24-20
SK has written som amazing short stories over the years, for instance The Gingerbread girl, Big driver and A good marriage. Those stories are particulary good because they are simple and straightforward. The stories in this book are not, and they are, in my opinion, too cluttered with narrative threads.
Nice to meet Holly Gibney again though.
