La historia de la protagonista es narrada al tiempo que la historia del país. La intención del autor es recuperar la parte femenina que ha quedado diluida en la historia de un país fundamentalmente masculino, donde la herencia azteca, árabe y española la ha marginado del acontecer histórico.

I fell in love with this book and its characters all over again.

I've read this book in 1999 after going to its presentation by Carlos Fuentes in L.A. when I was a sophomore in high school. I loved the book then, but now that I have just listened to it again I have a better understanding of the story and the characters and I can honestly say that I love it even more. The book captivated my attention and I truly enjoy all of its colorful characters.

How sad and yet beautiful the story was.

I loved the message of redemption and hope of the story, some parts were hard to listed to because of the pain inflicted on the characters but an overall magnificent book.
