Unmarriageable is one of those novels that you can finish in a week-end but with intention I stretched out as long as possible. When I saw that Ms Kamal was not only the author but narrator I knew it would be a lovely read/listen but it was so much more. She captures the intricate modern Pakistani social culture to a T. There are many modern Pride and Prejudice novels out there but Ms Kamal's twist was outstanding. I've purchased two hard-copies, one to keep and one to gift. I am so looking forward to Ms Kamal's next work. Even the epilogue is a must read.

A Beautiful Heart Wrenching Story
Revisado: 08-30-21
A beautiful moving novel by Tahmima Anam. Every mother reading this novel will feel a tug at her heartstrings.
Madhur Jaffery couldn't be more perfect as the narrator. Bravo for taking the time to find someone as elegant and believable as this narrator.
This is a trilogy, which I discovered through the interview at the end of the novel. I look forward to reading about Rehana's father.
I love Pakistan most of all, but it is always important to feel both sides. Especially when it deals with children, family, and the human touch.

far away or here/yesteryear or today
Revisado: 11-28-20
The story was woven so perfectly. A little of the old and a little of the new. The main character, Lakshmi, is a brave and independant woman, paving her path as her world unfolds in so many unexpected ways. I chose the novel because of the narratrice who I had listened to on two different audible books. I would listen to anything narrated by the transcendent voice of Sneha Mathan. She excels where most others make me cringe: children's voices...not to mention her perfect mimicking of a mulyi-lingual parakeet.

Finding Love and Home in Occupied Palestine
Revisado: 09-28-20
Great listen (other than children's voices) but that pushed me to purchase the actual hardback book to read and add to my bookshelf. Susan Abdulhawa is brilliant (Morning in Jenin, a must read) she weaves the historical and recent truths within the story of Nour's search for love and a place to call home.

Historia
With her disarming, intimate, completely accessible voice, and dry sense of humor, Nora Ephron shares with us her ups and downs in I Feel Bad About My Neck, a candid, hilarious look at women who are getting older and dealing with the tribulations of maintenance, menopause, empty nests, and life itself.

hysterically funny, heartbreaking, and irreverently touching ... but then again, maybe that's just my age...
