Interesting but outdated
Revisado: 05-22-23
There are many improvements to the welfare system such as The working poor now receive I-phones from the government and children receive breakfast and weekend meals from schools. This does not mean there is no working poor; oh contrary! But the book does not address the current situation. It is an extraordinary insight into the struggles of the poor. The same dilemmas are in fact true today to balance expenses of food and shelter, but food is now an inflationary indicator that was not the case at the time of the writing of this book. There are different issues now for the poor not addressed in this book.

I truly enjoyed this book. The development of the characters were not predictable which made me anxious to come back to read more……I am fascinated by Alma; one who was not afraid to face herself with all of her flaws and goodness.

Mandatory Reading for every LEO
Revisado: 04-10-22
So much behind the scenes that I did not know and I’m a retired Federal LEO that worked on 2 state JTTFs after 9-11. Excellent resource to understand dynamics and how to be a better problem solver. An Excellent resource to understand the extremists culture. The performer carried a perfect tenor for the listener to understand complicated associations.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Life of unanswered questions
Revisado: 06-17-20
And grudges based on those gaps of information. The Book takes the reader along in the lives and relationship of siblings; without a mother and afraid of their father; an acquired step mother who rejects them, all through the eyes of their memories living in The Dutch House. The effects of experiences, real and imagined, on a child. Realistic and sad.

Published in 1945, Cannery Row focuses on the acceptance of life as it is: both the exuberance of community and the loneliness of the individual. Drawing on his memories of the real inhabitants of Monterey, California, Steinbeck interweaves the stories of Doc, Henri, Mack and his boys, and the other characters in this world where only the fittest survive, to create a novel that is at once one of his most humorous and most poignant works.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Try to put the pieces together and turn the page
Revisado: 02-17-15
If you could sum up Defending Jacob in three words, what would they be?
Heartbreaking, Maddening, Mysterious
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jacob was well played as a typical teenager that views himself as others view him but the parents are oblivious. Jacob is not overwritten or sugar coated....a precocious, devious, only child, product of helicopter parents.
Which scene was your favorite?
My point on Jacob's character is validated in the scene that Jacob's father reads Jacob's Ipad to discover the secret deviant character and tendencies of his son.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did not cry, but it hurt my heart to examine how parents try so hard to make things right and invest so much effort, to the point of failing their own character, in the name of love.

Francis Cornish was always good at keeping secrets. From the well-hidden family secret of his childhood to his mysterious encounters with a small-town embalmer, an expert art restorer, a Bavarian countess, and various masters of espionage, the events in Francis' life were not always what they seemed. This wonderfully ingenious portrait of an art expert and collector of international renown is told in stylish, elegant prose and endowed with lavish portions of Davies' wit and wisdom.

If you could sum up What's Bred in the Bone in three words, what would they be?
Twisted, Intriguing, Layered
Who was your favorite character and why?
The House Servants that care for the unfortunate sibling.
Have you listened to any of Frederick Davidson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have enjoyed listening to it all in one sitting. There was never a good point to lay it down as there were characters introduced or another event unfolding that I wanted to discover.

Historia
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. The Fault in Our Stars is insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. It brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

A Look at Life from a Glass Half Empty
Revisado: 01-19-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, for light reading. It provides a good story line on a family life no one wishes to experience and very few discuss.
Would you be willing to try another book from John Green? Why or why not?
Probably I would. His characters have peculiar personalities in this book that were entertaining.
What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?
She was an excellent storyteller.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did not laugh or cry. The characters were so different from my reality that I did not connect to them, though I thought their stories were interesting and entertaining to read about.
Any additional comments?
Very good YA read and would most likely provide more emotional attachment than adults.
