Described as American Gods meets The Avengers, Paternus combines myths from around the world in a modern story of action and intrigue that is “urban fantasy on the surface, but so much more at its core!”

Too much YA, but still worth it.
Revisado: 04-08-25
Spoiler alert!
Some of the characters where good (like Baphomet) and parts of the plot too.
Overall too much YA, but that was somewhat made up for by the occasional body horror.
The cosmology with all the parallel worlds/dimensions I didn't like.

Historia
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Might be better than the first book in the series
Revisado: 12-25-24
The intrigues made it so much more than just action and war. Not en par with but stepping in the tracks of such masterpieces as Game of Thrones. No characters seems really off limits for death.

Historia
Few know the warship’s actual name. But everyone has heard the rumors. The PUV James Keeling can do something no other vessel in existence can do—slip into another dimension, travel undetected, then re-emerge onto our plane and surprise enemy targets. But the thing that makes the Crypt unique also makes it a nightmare for those onboard; interdimensional travel causes hallucinations, violent behavior, and psychotic breakdowns. Keeling could be the Union’s greatest weapon, a game-changing asset that can defeat the bloodthirsty zealots of the Purist Nation, the Union’s mortal enemy.

This even taps into my favorite setting of WH40k. But makes it more relate able by placing it close to our times.

The last part of the 3, where the one I liked the most.
Revisado: 11-26-24
Really good sci-fi to my taste.
The world building is excellent.
And world building is what I'm primarily into sci-fi for.
The plots are very good as well, as are the characters.
The tempo is a bit slow for my taste in the first parts. The last part I liked the best.
But it is ok as a build up and due to sticking to hard science/sci-fi at least as far as I'm concerned.

Historia
With the help of a command AI, the hole in the Daedalus has been fixed by Hazel and her friends. But in the process, they have antagonized the Yi, the aliens who are actually controlling the Daedalus. After a daring escape from the Yi, Hazel and her friends now must convince the people of the Daedalus villages and the village leaders that the Yi exist - and that they must fight back in order to survive. This proves tricky, as those in power don't want their authority challenged.

Even though this is YA protagonists, the worldbuilding/setting and the plots are good. I don't like the narrators voice though.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Spot on
Revisado: 09-08-24
Not my favorite, neither as a book by Adrian Tchaikovsky nor as being a sci-fi novel. But it had splendid and spot on critique of society and possibly human nature as well.
It leans into what seems to be a trend of these times, with sci-fi novels about robots, AI and similar (Murderbot Diaries et al.). Off course with threads back to classics such as Does Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Historia
My name is Gary Rendell. I'm an astronaut. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "astronaut, please!" I dreamed astronaut, I worked astronaut, I studied astronaut. I got lucky; when a probe exploring the Oort Cloud found a strange alien rock and an international team of scientists was put together to go and look at it, I made the draw. I got even luckier. When disaster hit and our team was split up, scattered through the endless cold tunnels, I somehow survived. Now I'm lost, and alone, and scared, and there's something horrible in here. Lucky me.

I liked the thri-solans dabbling with unfolding and folding protons throughout macro dimensions the most. The build up of the story was decent and captivating, but the story did not tie up enough to my taste. I like Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton better.

Boring or at least not to my taste
Revisado: 05-29-24
Made it into the 9th chapter before giving up on this audiobook on Audible. Will have to read up on how to redeem my monthly credit used to purchase this.
I bought it, as I read elsewhere the author being praised. But found this novel was not to my taste. Might be I'm just more of a sci-fi than fantasy kinda guy 🤷🏻♂️
