Original Content in the LITRPG Genre
Revisado: 04-07-21
It's not the most frightening horror novel I've ever read but it's almost one of a kind in the LITRPG genre. That alone makes it stand out. And while the monsters didn't do much to frighten me, the implications of the torture device was horrific enough for me and really made me think of the possible downsides of these trapped in a game novels. Really loved the narrators as well, each bringing their own distinct voices and flavors which helped it stand out against other audiobooks as well.

Short but to the point
Revisado: 04-07-21
A little on the short end for an audiobook for me but the story didn't waste a lot of time with much filler. It quickly establishes the world, sets up the narrative and then dunks you right into the middle of the plot while keeping enough hooks to make you want the next novel. I didn't think there were major issues with the plot and I'm excited to learn more about the world and system that's been set up in the novel.
This is the first time hearing this narrator and I have to say I'm impressed. He was definitely a solid choice and has a lot of range and potential. I look forward to see what more he brings to this series and series to come.

Slow start, promising future
Revisado: 02-19-21
Not gonna touch Narration, it's Nick Podehl he kills it as always.
This definitely feels like a novel written during the hunger games/divergent era of YA books. It's not bad, in fact the teenagers come off like teenagers. Mischief and Mayhem, the usual. It's pretty standard fair. I think the novels major downside is how long it takes to get rolling, most of the plot and world building happen in the last 25% of the book. I get that we want to establish our characters and their relationships but it could have been done quicker or concurrently with other aspects of the plot.
There are interesting and unique aspects to the world from the start. It's religion and order are facets that I see future books delving into and I look forward to that. But a lot of it is pretty standard stuff for a cultivation focused novel, again until about the end. We'll see how that develops once we see more of the world at large.
It was definitely interesting and compelling enough to check out the next in the series.

Overall a fairly easy listen. The story is a whirlwind of a wild ride that leaves you wanting more. It introduces enough of the world to make you want to listen to the next book just to find out more, more about the characters, what's going on in the game world. The main character is definitely a new take on the standard LITRPG MCs, curious to see where her journey goes now.

Solid Start
Revisado: 10-17-19
Good start to a new series, does a good job setting up the world and it's mechanics. Characters introduced are as fleshed out and intriguing as the MC. A good bit of foreshadowing and intrigue to keep you wanting more. I'll end with my favorite quote from the book to steal a line from a friend..."BACKSTAB!"
