Historia
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

Cliché, predictable, and worn out
Revisado: 04-16-25
Just dumb. The plot is so cliché it's eye-rolling. While it is a 30hr listen for those of you looking to pass a lot of time... Well, I guess it has that going for it.

You can say goodbye to today's Internet, New York Times best-selling author George Gilder says. Soon the current model of aggregated free content populated with "value-subtracted" advertising will die a natural deat. In Life After Google, Gilder takes listeners on a brilliant, rocketing journey into the very near-future, into an Internet with a new "bitcoin-bitgold" transaction layer that will replace spam with seamless micro-payments and provide an all-new standard for global money.

Boooooooring
Revisado: 01-21-25
While the topic, theoretically, is right up my ally.. This book is endless bla bla bla. It seems to be more about the authors rant about Google than disseminating any interesting or useful information. Altho to be fair, I tapped out after about 3-4 hrs in.
If he's your neighbor, go ahead and support your friend, but I'd otherwise recommend skipping it for... Well, just about anything thing else on the subject.

Ok
Revisado: 11-20-24
It's teen writing with an ok story line. The narrator does ok with some voices, but with most, it's literally difficult to tell if it's being read by a machine. Many are devoid of all realistic expression while others are droning and nasally. It's a decent value for 10 average books that could likely be shortened to 8 if the editor cut out every time the writer used the words ' smirk' or ' sadistic'. Apparently, those are literally the only two descriptors the writer knew. ( he died with a smirk, she fought with a smirk, they cried with a smirk.. They ate with sadistic smirks..) If you can overlook that eye rolling annoyance, it's OK and even leaves room for more smirking books in the future.

About 53 hours too long
Revisado: 06-20-24
The narrator was good, did all voices and accents well, and was the only real positive about the story. That said, the story is really really weak and waaaay too long. If I cared initially about the characters, that changed quickly as my mind went numb with hour after hour of unimportant and repetitive slaughter, everyone having 3-4 names that are neither memorable or important, and endless droning on of bla bla bla.
It seemed as if it may have been written for teens, but the 59.5 hours of gruesome killing, sacrifice, and maiming make it rather inappropriate for anyone but adults. All this killing and fighting is seemingly centered around Greek mythology, Camelot, Marvel and other religious characters that all have four names and a long, boring history that adds little to the plot.
Even if the plot was good, it all could have been written for 6-8 hour story. The remainder of the hours spent listening quickly become nothing but background noise to listen to.. like a soccer game playing in the background while you build a dog house. Droning noise.
I don't recommend it unless you are SUPER into mythology and love hearing about death and gore. On the other hand, if you've a dog house to build and it's going to take a really long time, it might be OK back ground noise.

Meh..
Revisado: 04-19-24
It's ok if you like books where the "hero" has all the right (nearly non-human) specialized skills, somehow always gets the (mostly unattainable) special gear and weapons, always survives and continues to fight (unrealistic odds ) with insurmountable (usually fatal to everyone else) injuries, and yet somehow maintains a moral compass and perfect preistly honesty while hacking, slashing, shooting, bashing, and stabbing the hundreds and hundreds of other special forces and operators throughout the world who are always after him.. only to always win. If that's your thing, you'll love it.
If you expect more of a plot, character development, or realistic adventure.. I'm going to recommend a hard skip. It wasn't bad, per say.. it just isn't good and it's definitely not worth it to me to carry on with the series.

Sooooo Soooo BAD!
Revisado: 03-08-24
Unless you are a young teen with a poor grasp of quality writing, skip this series. While the story itself is sort of ok..barely, the writing is sooo sooo sooo bad I'm shocked it got published. It's incredibly cheesy, predictable, and dumb. And the author needs to find another word for "defiant" since that's seems to be the only adjective known for any characters behavior.
The story: a 16yo girl teaches aliens who are 17,000yo about life, fighting, and friends. Because after 17000+ years, they apparently can't figure it out. So...other than the simplistic, juvenile writing, totally believable.
If it had been a fifth grade creative writing assignment from an imaginative nephew, I might have been impressed.. As something I paid for, it's an utter waste of credits and time.

Outstanding.
Revisado: 11-07-23
Excellent narration is only icing on the cake of brilliant writing .
The plot is addictively engaging, the characters have depth and are like/hateable, and you will be searching for the next in the series 2 hours before this book's end.
The story is an intelligent epic adventure, a fabulous sci-fi ride , and fast action war thriller in one.
Love, love, loved it and am fast forwarding to the next with high anticipation.

Great value on a long, but fun story
Revisado: 10-05-23
It's a unique story concept that plays out well for young adults and Sci Fi Fantasy lovers.
I liked that it was original, had great character development (for the most part) and was a fun story.
It starts great with solid main characters, plot, and action. While still enjoyable, it drifts into long story add ons that are a bit dulled as the tale progresses. Some story offshoots are ok, others are a bit.. unnecessarily lengthy .. And really.. Unnecessary.
That said, it's solid writing, good mental imagery and has a engaging cast of characters . It's not a 5/5 given the parts that could have been edited out without loss, but there is 5 Star value for a single credit. I won't promise you'll love it endlessly, but I promise, if this relatively innocent fun is your genre, it's a crazy good 5 star credit value. Worth a listen!

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

7 Reasons why NOT to read this drivel
Revisado: 02-22-23
1. It's juvenile and extremly predictable.
2. The writing is 8th grade level.. At best.
3. The narration is... Bad.
4. The story is pathetic and tired.
5. It's not remotely believable.. A metal parrot ai in space?? Really?
6. No character development that makes one care about ANYTHING in the book.
7. The dialog is worse than dumb.
Maybe if you're in Jr high and never read a space adventure before, it's OK.. But it's definitely not ok if you expect quality, intelligent writing with an engaging plot and interesting characters. I gave up about 2 hours in... 1 hr and 59 min after I should have.
