Historia
Jamestown, England's first real foothold in the New World, was fraught with danger - from starvation and disease to violent skirmishes between colonists and the native populations. Mortality rates were impossibly high: six out of seven settlers died within the first few years. How clear these and other perils were made to the 56 young women who left their homes and boarded ships in England in 1621, nearly 15 years after Jamestown's founding, is not known. But we do know who they were. Their ages ranged from 16 to 28, and they were deemed "young and uncorrupt".

Not what you think it is

Don’t expect any stories of these girls lives. It was more a reading of dry articles of the day. I was very disappointed and glad it was free.

Historia
There is no easy path for a woman aspiring to power. A concubine at the palace learns quickly that there are many ways to capture the emperor's attention. Many paint their faces white and style their hair attractively, hoping to lure in the One Above All with their beauty. Some present him with fantastic gifts, such as jade pendants and scrolls of calligraphy, while others rely on their knowledge of seduction to draw his interest. But young Mei knows nothing of these womanly arts, yet she will give the emperor a gift he can never forget.

Good Story, Bad Narration
Revisado: 07-23-23
Narration was WAY too dramatic, I almost stopped listening to the book because of it. Story was good although at some points it seemed too valley girlish and/or unbelievable for the place and time period. Not as refined as most historical fiction novels but the plot kept me listening.
