I Shouldn’t Have Waited So Long
Revisado: 09-08-20
I shouldn’t of waited as long as I did to read this book, it has to be Steven’s best work yet. I looked for every opportunity I could to listen to more of this Ryan Decker installment. I am excited to see where the story goes next.

Historia
The white power movement in America wants a revolution. It has declared all-out war against the federal government and its agents, and has carried out - with military precision - an escalating campaign of terror against the American public. In Bring the War Home, Kathleen Belew gives us the first full history of the movement that consolidated in the 1970s and 1980s around a potent sense of betrayal in the Vietnam War and made tragic headlines in the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.

This Was Ok, But I Was Hoping For More
Revisado: 03-06-20
First off the narrator is horrible. I may have enjoyed the book more if I read it. I was wondering if it was AI read for a bit.
That said there is a ton of interesting information on the early movement. But it basically halts with the Oklahoma City bombing, only touching on the modern movement briefly in the Epilogue. I was looking for more of that.

Historia
America is falling, ready to join the Roman Empire as a distant memory in the annals of history. The year is 2027. Tired and desperate, the American people are deep in the middle of The Second Great Depression. The Florida coastline is in ruins from the most powerful hurricane on record; a second just like it is bearing down on the state of Texas. For the first time in history, the Middle East has united as one and amassed the most formidable army the world has seen since the Third Reich.

Narrator doesn’t help the author
Revisado: 08-13-19
I might have enjoyed this more with a better narrator. He was bad. On a minor point who in this day and age doesn’t know how to pronounce “Jimenez”, someone who is sheltered I guess. Otherwise I thought it was a computer reading it at times. Or that multiple characters sounded whinny. It made it hard to get into the book.
There is a good premise to the story, but it seemed to disjointed to me. The main characters came together far too late. There was a lot of data dumping, backstory and telling, not showing. I found it humorous that I think the author took the climax of the book a little too literally.
Maybe if I read it instead of listened to it I would have enjoyed it more.

Revisado: 07-31-19
I enjoyed books 1-3, but Scott really stepped it up in books 4-6. I enjoyed the story and I was drawn more into the characters. The tension rose nicely to the final battle. Well done.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Well worth the listen
Revisado: 06-11-19
Not usually what I listen to, but I do find WWII history fascinating and this book combined that with personal stories of men who fought and died on Okinawa. It demonstrates that war is hell for those on the battlefield and the ones who love them.

Good story that has you looking for more.
Revisado: 12-02-18
This was a good story overall, with characters you became interested in following … well except for Jack and Emma. I secretly kept waiting for them to catch a stray bullet.
While the story was good and steadily built tension, I felt a bit hanging at the end with the final wrap up. There was so much detail and dramatic events through out the books that the ending seemed to be wrapped up a bit too summarily. I like the authors work and look forward to listing/reading more of it.

Good story, but the Narration was a distraction
Revisado: 10-25-18
This was a good story, especially the first 3 books. The fourth was OK. The series is definitely worth the listen if you are in to this genre.
The narration in the first book reminded me of the melodrama of 1940’s movies. It got better as the series progressed or I just got used to it. Then other small things like saying “hello” for helo (helicopter), etc.

Meh ... Prepper manual wrapped in thin story
Revisado: 08-29-18
First off, I prep myself, so I get it. But I had a hard time getting into the characters, they didn't resonate with me. The most interesting insight in to Jim was in the epilogue. Not caring much about the characters, made it hard to get into the story. I felt like this story was someone dressing up a survival manual.
Kevin Pierce - I have heard a couple books read by him, and he does narrated the story well. The problem for me, is he sounds like an older guy (which I am myself), and it is nearly impossible to match that with the guy on the cover of the book. I envision a 60 year old guy working his way home.
