- This is simply a repeat of what I wrote for Volume 1 -
The Pickwick Papers is a very funny book, and it's no surprise it is loved to this day. What has made this book extra special to me is Patrick Tull's reading of it. He narrates the story and plays each character with a style and energy I think would be exhausting to imitate. I have to admit I don't love the recording quality that much (it's a little too strong in the mid-range). But the life Tull's performance gives to the book allows me to overlook this minor technicality. This is a must-have in your collection!

Historia
Number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Moore returns with his first major book in eight years - a blend of memoir, history, and politics that only he could write. "I had an unusually large-sized head, though this was not uncommon for a baby in the Midwest. The craniums in our part of the country were designed to leave a little extra room for the brain to grow in case one day we found ourselves exposed to something we didn't understand, like a foreign language, or a salad".

A great American story!
Revisado: 11-05-11
If you're a fan of Michael Moore, are interested in how he became the man he is or want to hear how a seemingly unremarkable guy can do extraordinary things (a truth often forgotten in a democratic society) you'll enjoy this book. He has a very interesting story to tell and his writing lives up to it. What's moore (heh heh), he performs his story beautifully; it's just so much fun to listen to. My only complaint is the sound quality. Most of the recording sounds like it was done in his kitchen with him standing too far from his computer mic.

Historia
Ben Holiday, High Lord of the magic kingdom of Landover, and his wife Willow have sent their 15-year-old daughter Mistaya to our world to attend a prestigious girls' boarding school. Mistaya--Misty to her friends--is not pleased with the arrangement. She is forbidden to use her magic for any reason, can't understand why other girls her own age don't revere the natural world, and is too clever for her own good in coming up with activities definitely not contained in the private school charter.

Historia
In this important program of interviews conducted by award-winning radio journalist David Barsamian, Noam Chomsky discusses America's policies in the increasingly unstable world. With his famous insight, lucidity, and redoubtable grasp of history, Chomsky offers his views on the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the doctrine of "preemptive" strikes against so-called rogue states, and the prospects of the second Bush administration, warning of the growing threat to international peace posed by the U.S. drive for domination.

A must-have in your listening library
Revisado: 06-04-07
Noam Chomsky has important things to say about world affairs, the American government's role in them, in particular. His books, though well-researched and informative, can be a bit overwhelming to a lot of readers, myself included. This series of interviews with David Barsamian, an obvious admirer of Chomsky's, is a great introduction to what Chomsky has to say and what citizens need to do to improve the world we live in. Excluding the first interview, which is done over the phone, the sound quality is very good to excellent.

A very good interview
Revisado: 06-04-07
I am a huge fan of both Noam Chomsky and Brian Lamb, so I am a bit biased. On the other hand, I truly think this interview was done well. Chomsky spoke in about as clear a voice as he's going to get nowadays. Lamb is, as always, a masterful and sincere interviewer. Callers on the program ask a lot of questions I think we could imagine ourselves asking, even a couple of frivolous ones. The sound quality is also very good. Chomsky talks about many things that are crucial to our understanding of world affairs, particularly the American role in it. This interview covers a lot of ground, though one should really read his books to appreciate the extent of the knowledge and research behind what he says. People who are probably disinclined to be fans of Chomsky, but really know little about him aside from very questionable characterizations of him by right-wing pundits may also want to give this interview a listen.

Historia
Friedrich Hegel developed a profound and influential synthesis of all prior knowledge. He aimed to make philosophy an all-comprehensive science that would restate, in rational language, the truth of Christianity. In Hegel's vast speculative and idealistic philosophy, truth is found not in the part but in the whole. Nature is an organic whole shot through with rationality akin to the reason in ourselves.

Revisado: 06-04-07
I suspect I will have the same thing to say about all of the books in this series, as they are all narrated by Charlton Heston and are similar in quality. These books are a lot of fun as they are concise, easy to understand, clear on the main points, and masterfully read. The recording is also excellent. Although my political leanings kept me from being excited about downloading a book read by Charlton Heston, I have to admit that he has a style and flair that make the books very listenable. The "European" accented readings of other philosophers by other actors are a little cheesy at first, but do help with the atmosphere.

Historia
Immanuel Kant's "transcendental" philosophy transcends the question of "what" we know to ask "how" we know it. Before Kant, philosophers had debated for centuries whether knowledge is derived from experience or reason. Kant says that both views are partly right and partly wrong, that they share the same error; both believe that the mind and the world, reason and nature, are separated from one another.

Not great, but worth a listen
Revisado: 06-04-07
I'm familiar with only the first three Bunnicula audio books and this one. The first thing to strike me as I listened to this recording was how much I wanted to hear Victor Garber's narration. I must admit that Patrick Mulvahill does a fine job as well, but it's very easy to get attached to Garber's characterizations. The recording is top-notch, of course. It seems that readers of Bunnicula have commented on the decline in the quality of the stories of Howe's latter books in the series. If this book is exemplary of the last several, I would have to agree. Though this story lacks the mastery of the first three, it is still entertaining and worth a listen.

A very entertaining listen
Revisado: 06-04-07
When it comes to audio books, I tend to focus on the quality of the recording and performance, rather than on the book itself, which can simply be read. I generally dislike it when authors read their own works, as they usually don't give the same performance that actors do. When I heard a clip of Superfudge, I didn't much care for Blume's voice and narration, but I downloaded it anyway. Getting used to her as the narrator didn't take very long, and I found that she really made her book come alive in a way that only she, as the author, could have. She's a capable narrator and makes her books very enjoyable to listen to. The recording is loud and clear. I plan to download the rest of the Fudge series.
