Historia
For the citizens of Spokane Falls, the fire of 1889 that destroyed their frontier boomtown was no disaster; it was an opportunity. Barton Heydale, manager of the only bank in Spokane Falls, is on the verge of ending his short, unpopular life. But when his city goes up in flames, he sees an ember of hope shimmering on the horizon, headed right for him. As citizens flock to the bank to cash out insurance policies and take out loans, he realizes he can command the power he craves—and it’s not by following the rules. Here is his reason to live.

Loved it!

I've already read this book twice. The characters are complex and interesting in their imperfection. The humor is sharp and witty and the story line isn't easily predictable. I really enjoyed this book and I totally recommend it.

Poor story full of tired tropes
Revisado: 01-12-23
Was this book really written in 2021? It leans so heavily on the theme of an ideal woman and family unit that it feels like a poor attempt to disguise propaganda. Not to mention the grossly over exaggerated worship of hyper masculinity. The author must have written "a man, woman, and child" at least a dozen times over the course of three pages. Talk about beating a dead horse.
Not exactly a mystery novel if you figure it out ahead of time thanks to just how predictable it is. It feels like a book written for the sake of pushing ideals onto people not an attempt to share a good story.

Why do only a few people get to say "I love my job?" It seems unfair that finding fulfillment at work is like winning a lottery; that only a few lucky ones get to feel valued by their organizations, to feel like they belong. Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders are creating environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things.

Good book, could use an update
Revisado: 03-28-19
Great advice, great goals, typical motivational tone, if you keep in mind the year it was published. The author unintentionally has a narrow approach and a narrow target audience. The end message can apply to a border audience, if you ignore how it's heavily dominated by male experiences for male consumers. Any reference to women contributing to the team is always low level or as part of an ancillary player. Apparently, before 2014, women never led any memorable game changing advances in a team or group setting. That, or people only like to notice the great men who change the rules or the outcome of the game. But that topic should be left for another book. Readers, in general, can take away a positive message to be used routinely on a daily basis.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
