Historia
A vividly original literary novel based on the astounding true-life story of Laura Bridgman, the first deaf and blind person who learned language and blazed a trail for Helen Keller. At age two, Laura Bridgman lost four of her five senses to scarlet fever. At age seven, she was taken to Perkins Institute in Boston to determine if a child so terribly afflicted could be taught. At age 12, Charles Dickens declared her his prime interest for visiting America. And by age 20, she was considered the 19th century's second most famous woman.

Failure is a topic discussed in every creative writing department in the world, but this is the book every beginning writer should have on their shelf to prepare them. Less a guide to writing and more a guide to what you need to continue existing as a writer, On Writing and Failure: Or, On the Peculiar Perseverance Required to Endure the Life of a Writer describes the defining role played by rejection in literary endeavors and contemplates failure as the essence of the writer’s life.

Exactly what I would expect from Stephan, he doesn’t sugarcoat, but I think he’s right. Insightful. Rich in his research. I really enjoyed this piece.

Wisdom from someone who’s been in the trenches
Revisado: 04-22-22
This book feels like it was written by someone who is actually been doing the work of reaching into the world. The number of stories she relays, the personal examples, the honest hardships, they all weave together to be a credible and motivating story about reaching into the world. As much as I love Becky’s voice in her podcasts, her word economy, the audiobook felt a little more mechanical.

Historia
"Stickeen.... pushed his head past my shoulders, looked down and across, then looked me in the face and began to mutter and whine; saying as plainly as if speaking with words, "Surely, you are not going into that awful place. "As the darkness of a freezing night approaches, an experienced American naturalist and a dog are trapped on an Alaskan Glacier. This is a true story, written by one of the United States' most famous naturalists and explorers.

As a dog lover
Revisado: 12-11-20
As a dog lover this was a masterful book. I’ve taken long adventures, and sometimes dangerous moments with my dog and this captured it. Loved it, would give it 10 stars if I could.
