Historia
Irish-born Johnny Flynn, a former British soldier, is banished from his homeland and sent to America on a ship so riddled with disease that he realizes the voyage was meant to murder him. When he survives the trip, the captain forces him to walk the plank into the Hudson River. Miraculously, an Irish gang, the Swamp Angels, rescues Johnny and gives him a job running whiskey in Hell's Kitchen, just as Prohibition makes liquor a hugely profitable, dangerous business.

This is a hidden gem in the historical fiction genre. The characters are unique and perfectly developed, The story is beautifully written, very emotional, and really hard to stop listening to! I have the physical book as well and the narrator did a very good job bringing it to life as an audiobook.

A history book for every age
Revisado: 03-19-22
I'm usually very picky about audiobooks. If the narrator doesn't keep me engaged, I lose my focus. Robert Slone was the perfect choice for this history book. Even though it was released a while ago, the audiobook is new on Audible. It's marketed for children, but as an adult who doesn't know much about American history this book was exceptionally well put together. It's narrated in a simple way, but it's not childish. The author, Rod Martinez, offers interesting, many times fun details about the life of American presidents. Another thing that I enjoyed was the way he sprinkled information about the first ladies in every chapter. I can easily say this is a literary piece for every age, not just for middle school.

Lovely children's book!
Revisado: 08-24-21
My 5-year-old son absolutely loves this book. We have the picture book as well and since he can't read, he listens to it while looking at the pictures. He expanded his knowledge of sickness and the passing away of a pet in a very gentle manner. I highly recommend it to every animal lover that has small children. Having this + the picture book is a bonus.

Historia
The 15th century Romanian Prince Vlad III Dracula, also known as Vlad the Impaler, is one of the most fascinating personalities of medieval history. Already during his own lifetime, his true story became obscured by a veil of myths. As a result, he has been portrayed both as a bloody tyrant - who degenerated down throughout the centuries into the fictional vampire of the same name created by Bram Stoker at the end of the 19th century - and as a national and Christian hero who bravely fought to defend his native land and all of Europe against the invading Turkish infidels.

The Definitive Biography of the Historical Dracula

Beautiful biography
Revisado: 08-13-21
Vlad Dracula's story is told in such a way, that even those who don't have much understanding of history can follow it. The author goes back to the deeds of his grandfather to show how Vlad came to be, in order to help the listener/reader understand his life and actions better. This historical figure has been misunderstood for hundreds of years, especially starting with the 19th century when the fictional novel Dracula was published.
I highly recommend it to those who want to learn the difference between Vlad III and the fictional Dracula. He was not a vampire, but he's no less fascinating.

I am hooked!
Revisado: 08-04-21
This is so good! I didn't know what to expect, but the story just sucked me in. Mr. Blaine is an excellent storyteller. I've had a weird fascination with the life of prisoners and life in prison in general, but no documentary is as raw as this true story.
