Story was good. I really liked the female narrator. She made Pine come to life. The male narrator was really bad. Over dramatic, very unrealistic. Sometimes I thought I was listening to Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies. Made it hard to listen at times. A big tough former army ranger that sounds like a not so bright, low IQ man is not appealing.

The book is not very well written. I have listened to a number of post apocalyptic books, as well as para military ones, and in comparison this one just doesn't cut it. The narrator has a sing song type of voice, and just doesn't fit the sound of what tough soldiers and covert ops teams would sound like.

The crew of the ship shouting "aye aye Captain" after his commands is just silly. After they found out only head shots take out the skulls, time after time they would say they shot them in the bodies and "they just kept coming".

Wondered why it was so cheap for all 4 books, and now I know why.

I am an avid listener to audible books. I always listen to the sample given before I buy, and the one for this group of books seemed ok. But it wasn't. As I am listening to the part where they are planning an assasination, the narrator's voice has a sing song tone that would be better suited for a children's book. The more it went on, the more irritated I got. Made it through the first book, and the second one seemed to be better. I had hoped someone spoke with Adam Verner and told him to make his voice stop the soft extensions of every sentence with the childish lilts. No such luck. He started it all over again.

I love Ray Porter's delivery for The Terminal List, Sons of Valor and many more. Adam....take note.

If I could return this purchase I would. I will put part of the blame on a weak storyline as well. With a good narrator, even a less than stellar book can be an interesting listen.

After reading The Terminal List and Orphan X, this book was just not that good in comparison. I will not be reading any other books in this series.

Narrator was very good. Sometimes a bit dramatic, but her voice fit the character and book. Story started slow, which can be frustrating. Once it picked up, however, it was great. Always wondered why Margo didn't get a regular flashlight instead of using her cell phone light, which seemed to be out of power alot. Also, there are night vision goggles that let you see in the dark.

Overall, I enjoyed this book.

Not what I expect from Koontz

i found this book very slow. I was in the third hour of listening, and the storyline was just boring. Not the usual from most Koontz books. It seemed like the narrator was almost whispering a good portion of the time, and that got irritating.

The ending was a bit odd. After listening to excruciating detail about most everything (turning down the bed?), the last 5 minutes had the characters going through a couple years of life in almost an afterthought.

This was my least favorite book by this author.

I have listened to a little over half of this book, but the narrator is ruining it for me. A good narrator sounds like he/she is telling a story. in this case, it sounds like he is reading an encyclopedia or something. I am spoiled, as I usually don't buy audibles unless I like the voice. In this case, the sample was not bad, so I thought I would give it a go. I regret my decision.

I will try to finish, but doubt I will be able to.

Loved the story. Real people trying to live in a post apocalyptic world. Narrator did a good job with the various characters. Definitely worth the listen.

Great audio book. Only complaint I might have is keeping up with so many names and places in the story line.

Highly recommend.

Female Jack Reacher

I can't say I totally disliked these books, but I would not rate them any higher than average. I get the tough female thing, but it seemed every other chapter would state how Rachel Hatch was the absolute best at basically everything from hearing, to fighting, to solving crimes. If you have to brag that much, you have other issues. Seemed like the author was trying to make Hatch a female version of Jack Reacher.....ex military, tough, silent type that moved around alot, and always seemed to find trouble.

The narrator sounded like she was reading the story, instead of "living" the story. I also had to speed up the tempo about 10% to make it more bearable.

This purchase was all 3 books in the series. Not sure I am going to listen to the third book.
