Just last weekend I went to see the Women’s Vietnam War Memorial in DC.
This book is based on the horror and waste of the Vietnam War, The remarkable yet uncelebrated contribution of women saving lives during the war. The horrifying PTSD and drug infiltration into this country as a result of this conflict. The heartbreaking reception of the drafted troops upon their homecoming. It just raised the ugly head of the tragedy the Vietnam War brought to so many. Many continue to suffer relentlessly. It was and continues to be heartbreaking.

Learned a lot about Burma, about the castes system, history. Enjoyed the characters and the story.

The narrator might as well have actually been the main character! She just enveloped me in the history.
And the story is about how brown skinned fashionistas and seamstresses brought style and beauty to the wealthy strata of women in the mid 1900s. Despite every attempt of other than their customers to contain their reputations.
Enjoyed the book thoroughly on every front.

The narrator was excellent.
Pointing out the lack of coverage of dark skinned successes and contributions to the worlds of art and horse racing was thought provoking and challenged me to become more informed about this very disturbing status of historical coverage in this country. … land of the free!?!
The ending! Ah, the ending. I was not happy about where the author left us!

Liked the advocacy of the women’s moral compass, not allowing it to be locked in place by social mores. The narrator made listening a pleasure.

And I enjoyed the 2nd. By book 3, the story flowed down, the characters lost some of their interest for me and it was discipline that helped me finish Book 3.

Then the ending stopped me in my tracks. The author allows the reader to know the characters better than they know one another. I can’t stop thinking about them. And how things ended and how they didn’t.
