The writing is fantastic. Hot, sexy, smart, and huge on consent. I am really loving the short stories, and I'm interested in seeing where the author goes with some longer form stories.

The performance, though, is grating. She puts too much effort in to trying to sound sexy and breathy. The performance comes across as a young, immature woman being introduced the world of sex and intimacy for the first time. Most sentences end in a rising inflection, making them sound as if they're being asked as a question.

The performance interfered with my overall enjoyment of the tales, but the stories were fantastic.

The story:
If you know any authors, I'm sure that you know that editors can be... Demanding. Domineering. Punishing. Caring. This is the tale of an erotica ghost writer and her editor and a fantasy come to reality in the course of subject matter research. The relationship that blossoms is intimate and intense. The characters are believable in an idealized way.

The performance:
The narrator's presentation annoyed me and was distracting for the first half of the book, before I got over it. While her voice is nice to listen to, the cadence and breathlessness that she brings to the story took away from my enjoyment of the story.

These are the tales of Damian Valdis Vesik, necromancer, and his friends, teacher, and family (both blood and chosen) as they fight to keep the world that we know from being consumed by demonkind.

The author obviously is familiar with the modern-day Pagan community, as many of his references match real-world understandings, which I greatly appreciate. While he takes some artistic licenses (that is, taking something of a departure from some parts of Legend), the stories are very well written and hang together extremely tightly.

Damien ("Demon" to his sister) is something of a charming curmudgeon who hides a heart of gold beneath a gruff exterior. The Fae who live in his grandfather clock are, by turns, highly entertaining, and scary as Hell!

I am a big fan of character-driven story lines, and these are very satisfying. The performance is solid and the narrator really brings the story, the characters, and the environment to life.
