E.F. Bloodworth has returned to his home - a forgotten corner of Tennessee - after 20 years of roaming. The wife he walked out on has withered and faded, his three sons are grown and angry. Warren is a womanizing alcoholic, Boyd is driven by jealousy to hunt down his wife's lover, and Brady puts hexes on his enemies from his mamma's porch. Only Fleming, the old man's grandson, treats him with the respect his age commands, and sees past all the hatred to realize the way it can posion a man's soul.

Historia
Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All the Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s. There’s Willard Russell, tormented veteran of the carnage in the South Pacific, who can’t save his beautiful wife, Charlotte, from an agonizing death by cancer no matter how much sacrificial blood he pours on his “prayer log.”

Flannery O'Connor on overdrive
Revisado: 08-05-17
This author is a hidden gem and I have discovered lives not far from me. I know the places he writes of and have hunted in those areas. I can see the people he describes, true as life. He is a great rider and should be read. The garbage I read on the best seller's list pales in comparison. The religious undertones and country living I myself grew up with are not fiction. Those simplistic virtues and basic living are rural America. Great intertwining story and theme. Keep writing, love the conversational and stream of thought prose.
Do yourself a favor and read something that is tangible.

Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Listen as if you were in a different place and time
Revisado: 04-25-17
This is a tale that is pure in its intent. It captures a time and a place that no longer exists. It is beautifully written and impassioned.
I read the negative reviews of this already renowned and proven classic and marvel at them as I do Monday Morning Quarterbacks and Armchair Generals. Enjoy!

Historia
In this deeply scary and intensely unnerving debut novel, Jake and a woman known only as "The Girlfriend" are on a drive to visit his parents at their secluded farm. But when Jake leaves "The Girlfriend" stranded at an abandoned high school, what follows is a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease, an exploration into psychological frailty, and an ending as suspenseful as The Usual Suspects and as haunting as Misery.

Don't let some of the negative reviews steer you away; this will be a classic
Revisado: 04-01-17
I really like what the author did with this. The story is woven together well and keeps the average reader in suspense up to the end. It took a lot of work to write this very interesting and clever story. Make sure to read it and see what you think. It's definitely worth the price of admission.

Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Genius
Revisado: 03-15-17
I am delighted to have found this novel. I don't use the word genius very often. I don't usually associate it with people that are productive. This work was genius. It was so different than anything I have ever read. I would describe it this way, as a matter of fact. A man that found a distraction from the horrors happening around him.

The narrator should have been someone that has a west Texas accent. In this rare case the movie is just as good as the book. I've read the book twice and listen to this once.

Couldn't wait for it to be over
Revisado: 10-16-16
I was hoping that this was going to be really enjoyable. Just wasn't. Extremely unrealistic as far the plot and I didn't care for the parallel to the Tempest, wasn't the best written. I hate the rap songs that were in some 1950's "Rocko" Mafia accent. I'm survey this will appeal to some (Shakespeare Fanatics) , but not to me. I really like Atwood's prose, but not on display here.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Is this our future? Prophetic!
Revisado: 10-08-16
This is a highly political book that touch upon current themes in our society and political system even though it was written over 60 years ago. Our Bill of Rights have disintegrated and have been watered down so much over the last 20 years, I can see the printed word become threatened as it is here. It's the next step beyond the making and not making of cakes right? One bill of right being weighed against another for some political short term gain sacrifices the whole. The same happened in this brilliant novel. Banning offensive books and banning the written word all together would seem a natural progression in the dumbing down of the populace as this novel points to. The thesis: books and writers and teachers of literature are dangerous--too many controversies with too many ideas from too much diversity created a restless population. However I got the feeling from the novel that there was a government push for inclusion that really just became a vehicle for exclusion. Eventually, all the populace shifted to the brain fodder of TV entertainment and no one critically thought anymore, except for that dangerous few and their books were burned by a new breed of firemen and sometimes they were burned their owners up as well.
Great prose in this novel. Thought provoking! I recommend it, especially for millennials.
