When That Which Makes Us Stronger was first published by Red Hawk, I thoroughly enjoyed this often funny, somewhat autobiographical novel by Greg Triggs. The setting, mostly in Madison, Wisconsin during the last 30 years of the 20th century, was so relatable to me.
The story centers around Warn Barnes, and his large, blended family. Warn is a smart, creative thoughtful kid. He is also gay, and as he grows towards and into adulthood, this part of his identity is more fully explored.
I enjoyed the author’s sense of humor, his story and narrative style. When I first read the book on paperback, I remember thinking, “The only thing that would make this better, would be hearing the author read it.” Thank you, Greg, Red Hawk, and Audible for making my wish come true.

The Doctor uses a very short list of reference material in this book. His views on grief and death are shallow and trite. His approach to this subject is outdated and lacks a more insightful worldview.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Funny how this book seems dated after only ten years... pagers? Still, a fun read.

Would you be willing to try another book from Patricia Cornwell? Why or why not?

I would... I would like to hear more about Dr Katz.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Nice.... the regional dialects were not very accurate.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No... but I believe that was part of the books over-all flavor.

Any additional comments?

I wish there were more books involving thanatology.
