Read this book so you buy our coaching packages!
Revisado: 11-03-20
For the uninitiated coach, this book has some pearls around developing a system that works for you (Nope, they don't give you a system to use!), filling your schedule by talking to prospects or clients during the day, like a blue collar worker HAS to do everyday at the DMV (their words, not mine), giving free coaching for the purpose of turning prospects into clients (not a new concept, except for the two hour intro session), finding the real reasons the person wants to be coached (their dreams). However, like many of these books, the authors are trying to sell you their coaching packages. They give you just enough to make you want more so you will go to their website, check their prices and hire them. I'm not saying they aren't good. I bet they are very good. It is just disappointing that they would write a book that is so limited in scope and direction for the purpose of getting more clients. If you aren't a coach, you should pick up some pearls of wisdom but I am also willing to bet that you are prompted to go to their website and consider hiring them. If you are a coach, there isn't really anything earth shattering in the book. They stress that the coach should do two hour intro sessions, dig deep to find the prospects "dreams" and talk to prospects (everyone is a prospect) and clients for eight hours a day. Other than that, get out your check book for the personal coaching experience and be prepared to spend a ton of money for the "coaching experience." Their top package is $100k. I spent a fraction of that on a coaching education that delivered the tools, resources and mentor coaching that I needed.

This program is read by the author.
Marc Brackett is a professor in Yale University’s Child Study Center and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In his 25 years as an “emotion scientist”, he has developed a remarkably effective plan to improve the lives of children and adults - a blueprint for understanding our emotions and using them wisely so that they help, rather than hinder, our success and well-being. The core of his approach is a legacy from his childhood, from an astute uncle who gave him permission to feel.

It’s Okay to Feel!!
Revisado: 09-18-19
Like many people growing up, I was told not to cry and to “suck it up “ which was the worst advice anyone can give to someone in distress. Thankfully, Dr. Marc Brackett provides evidence in his book that anxiety, panic, and a myriad of other serious problems can arise if you don’t let yourself feel. Dr. Brackett’s RULER steps provide an excellent framework for changing societies antiquated belief that you are better of not feeling. I highly recommend this book as it does an excellent job of taking the reader through the necessary steps to live a healthier (psychological) life.

Historia
You're trying to help - but is it working? There's a better way. In this powerful, practical audiobook, emotional intelligence expert Richard Boyatzis and Weatherhead School of Management colleagues Melvin Smith and Ellen Van Oosten present a clear and hopeful message. The way to help someone learn and change, they say, cannot be focused primarily on fixing problems, but instead must connect to that person's positive vision of themselves or an inspiring dream or goal they've long held.

Coaching Infomercial
Revisado: 09-18-19
There was some interesting information in the book regarding coaching with empathy, listening, the Positive and Negative Emotion Attractor, etc. However, this is not a how to do it coaching book. You will not get any guidance on how to specifically coach anyone. The authors referenced Case Western a lot and it really started to turn into an infomercial for their coaching certification program at Case Western. If anyone wants to know the why behind coaching, then read this book. However, if you want to know how to coach, you’re gonna need to spend nine grand (I looked it up on their website) for the how to coach.

Good concept but...
Revisado: 02-08-19
The alter ego is a good concept and I am a believer. However, I found that there was a lot of unnecessary, superfluous information that made the book much longer than it had to be. In summary, if you need the confidence to start a business or present in front of your peers (just a couple of many examples), develop the necessary skills (or focus on your existing skills, interests, values) and assume the persona or alter ego, and pretend you are that person and research demonstrates that you will perform better. For the most part, that’s the book.

If only life was so simple!
Revisado: 12-26-18
First, the summary is difficult to follow because the author explains the concepts in a way that comes across as disjointed. Second, the author is taking psychological concepts and offering simple solutions. Life is not an either or proposition. If you want to really understand human behavior, pick up Influence by Robert Cialdini or The Social Animal by Elliot Aronson.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Pop psychology in a box!
Revisado: 10-08-16
Beware of anybody who can offer you one to two solutions for all of life's problems. I do think that some of his advice concerning happiness has some Merit. For instance, chasing happiness won't deliver happiness. However, his overly simplified advice around things like relationships tends to be ridiculously simplistic. Remember that relationships are complicated and two quick fix solutions will not mean that you will be "fixed." I gave it three stars because he was able to repeat some empirically based science, although I did not hear him give credit where it's due as to where the original findings came from. If you need someone to tell you how to life, then buy this book.

Historia
This clever and pithy audiobook challenges introverts to take ownership of their personalities...with quiet strength. Sophia Dembling asserts that the introvert’s lifestyle is not "wrong" or lacking, as society or extroverts would have us believe. Through a combination of personal insights and psychology, The Introvert’s Way helps and encourages introverts to embrace their nature, to respect traits they may have been ashamed of and reframe them as assets.

Common Sense Fluff
Revisado: 06-17-15
I was totally unimpressed with this book. I found the book to be filled with fluff. If you want to read a real book about introverts, purchase the book quiet. The book Quiet, by Susan Cain, has a lot more substance to it relative to those folks who are introverts vs other behavioral styles. The narrator sounds like she's about 18 years old and I found it hard to digest taking advice from her.

Historia
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Great Book
Revisado: 12-10-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The author does an excellent job of articulating the differences between introverts and extroverts. More importantly, she describes how little people understand introverts and the lack of credit that is given to them!
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Introverts want human connection just like extroverts; they just demonstrate it in a different way.
What about Kathe Mazur’s performance did you like?
Great job with the narration.
If you could give Quiet a new subtitle, what would it be?
Introverts should never be overlooked in an expressively driven society!
Any additional comments?
I would suggest this book for anyone who doesn't understand why introverts behave the way they do and the differences between styles (extroverts and introverts).

Excellent Resource!
Revisado: 03-22-12
If you could sum up Just Listen in three words, what would they be?
This book is not only a good read but a great resource!
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite part of the boob dealt with the process of acknowledging your emotions through the process Goulstein details in a step by step process. I found the book to be a great adjunct to the subject of emotional intelligence.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Goulstein's book will keep you engaged and teach you at the same time.
Any additional comments?
My recommendation is that the reader consume this book for all it's worth. The reason is that our educational system totally fails to teach us many of the learnings that are in this book. Most people have no clue how to diffuse a volitile situation or effectively deal with emotiona crises. This book will help you-if you put his processes into practice-to achieve a more productive and happier existence.
