Historia
When Roisin and Joe join their friends for a weekend at a country house, it’s a triple celebration—a birthday, an engagement, and the launch of Joe’s shiny new TV show. But as the weekend unfolds, tensions come to light in the group and Roisin begins to question her own relationship. And as they watch the first episode of Joe’s drama, she realizes that the private things she told him—which should have stayed between them—are right there on the screen.

Total snooze fest
Revisado: 02-15-24
I am usually a pretty forgiving critic, but I had a hard time getting through this book. The other reviews confound me. I think the narrator is the best thing it has going for it. A British accent always makes a book better for me, but that can only get you so far. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never really did. The writing was fine, but the story was mundane and never paid off for me.

Meh, a bit vanilla
Revisado: 06-29-23
The book was fine, but not as good as others by Robyn Carr. It was a bit slow and predictable, so I struggled to get through it. Not bad, just a simple story I’m sure many will enjoy. Therese Plummer is always an enjoyable narrator, so that helps.

Tedious with over-dramatic narration
Revisado: 06-17-23
I have enjoyed other Colleen Hoover books, but this one was incredibly tedious to finish. I wanted to quit many times, but I was determined to get through it. While the premise was intriguing, the narrators were overly dramatic in inappropriate places, which took away from the actual dramatic scenes. Maybe it would be better to read it. Normally, I look for longer books, but this one dragged on and probably could have been cut by at least 2-3 hours. I was torn between giving it a 2 or 3 rating; I’d say it’s a 2.5. I recommend skipping if you don’t have a lot of patience with monotony.

Historia
Wildflower is a portrait of Drew's life in stories as she looks back on the adventures, challenges, and incredible experiences of her earlier years. It includes tales of living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying good-bye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led her to the successful, happy, and healthy place she is today.

Quintessential Drew Barrymore. I enjoyed hearing Drew’s story in her own words. Considering her unorthodox upbringing, it’s so nice to hear her perspective and follow her personal and professional successes. She is a genuine delight. I hope she does another book to continue her story. It’s like like chatting with an old friend, and I’m here for it.

Historia
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Honest and heartfelt account of a lifelong battle
Revisado: 05-22-23
I am baffled by the negative reviews of this book. It was clear to me from the start why she went down the path she did, and she owns it. Selma Blair is a survivor and a warrior. Sharing her story - good, bad and ugly - is incredibly brave. It is powerful to hear it in her own voice, and I have no doubt it will help a lot of people. So kudos to you, Selma, for how far you’ve come and how far you will continue to go. Don’t give the haters a second thought. Your village has your back, and that’s all that matters.

And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. Beautifully told, heart-wrenching story that will hopefully touch the coldest of hearts (my compassionate heart had a hard time listening to what I know happens all the time). This is just one example of the brutality people endure to find a better life. I hope this book can serve as a lesson in humanity and the triumph of the human spirit for years to come.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

The real Viola Davis
Revisado: 02-10-23
A powerful story that only one person could tell, because she has lived it. I already loved her work, but this raw, emotional, heartfelt story reminds us that we never know what someone has gone through or how they feel. I learned, I cried, and I even laughed at some moments of levity. Viola Davis is the real deal, beautiful inside and out, talented beyond measure, and I applaud her for sharing her story, the good, bad, and the ugly. I highly recommend this book, especially for white people who may not understand our everyday privilege.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

A heartfelt story from the source
Revisado: 01-23-23
It’s easy for people to judge and make assumptions based on highly questionable “media” accounts in the UK, so it was nice to hear Harry tell his story firsthand. I think he is genuine and I believe his accounts. It runs the gamut of sweet, sad, funny, disturbing, and telling. Of course, there will be criticism, but very few people on earth can understand what life has been like for him, so I put a lot of stock in the source. I commend him for doing what he had to do and I think he and Meghan will do good things for the world. It’s too bad it had to be this way, but in the end, I think they will make a much bigger impact without the constraints of their previous life. Kudos, Harry! Onward! xx

Heartbreaking, poignant, surprising, funny
Revisado: 10-14-22
I find that the most creative and talented people tend to be tortured souls in one way or another. They draw from those experiences in their performances, and we don’t always know what is hiding under the surface. Hearing Molly’s story for the first time really touched me. I am in awe of her determination and grit and humor in the darkest of times. She could have folded many times, but she persevered, and I love her for it. This open, honest look at her life gives people hope that you can do hard things and come out the other side. I laughed, I cried, I commiserated. Told by Molly herself, it’s like catching up with an old friend, reminiscing about the experiences that led her to where she is today. Definitely worth the listen.

Randy Rainbow, the man who conquered the internet with a stylish pair of pink glasses, an inexhaustible knowledge of Broadway musicals, and the most gimlet-eyed view of American politics this side of Mark Twain finally tells all in Playing with Myself, a memoir sure to cause more than a few listeners to begin singing one of his greatest hits like “A Spoonful of Clorox” or “Cover Your Freakin’ Face”.

Knew I’d Love It, But Exceeded Expectations
Revisado: 04-27-22
Oh, my, where to start? Randy Rainbow is a national treasure. I could not love this book more, and his narration is not only the icing but a bunch of cherries on top.
Randy is the trifecta of things I love in a man: New Yorker, Jewish and Gay, Gay, Gay. Swoon! (Note to self: This may be why you are a middle-aged hetero spinster. By choice, I might add; I started a trend and never looked back. But I digress.)
The honesty. The vulnerability. The fun. The creativity. The show tunes. The laughs. The Jewish mother. The celebrity encounters. There is so much to love.
I binge-listened in two days. I will listen again and again, just to hear Randy talk to me. And I bought the print edition for my brother, who introduced me to Randy’s videos when we all needed them. (My brother is a pilot, so Randy, if you’re reading this, your book will always have a prime seat in the cockpit of a major airline).
If you have an open heart, a sense of humor and a love and appreciation for show tunes, this book is for you.
I’m off to figure out how to make Randy my new best friend (in a non-stalker way).
Kudos, RR - can’t wait for the next one!
