The movies made for this series are far superior.

The screen writers do a much better job of making the characters and sets real than the book does. I lived and worked in L.A. for two years. I have really enjoyed the video versions of the stories. Granted that this book is just a predecessor to the first book that was filmed, but it does little to make me believe that listening to the next one would feel fulfilling.

Very disappointing

This is the most contrived plot of any of the books so far. There are way too many lucky coincidences; they are on the level one might expect in a children's story.

It seems the author is too busy rushing to the end of the series to feel the need to write a book that can stand on its own. I have enjoyed the books up to this point. As if to reinforce my points, there is a 4 minute Epilogue to lead the listener to the next book.

The more characters and mythical creatures added, the more short changed they all are. I prefer quality over quantity. Either the author has a very dull sex life to call upon or she is stuck in some CODE about how it must be written.

Like Watching Seinfeld

My brother recommended this book. Our interests overlap, but this is the second great disappointment of his recommendations. I don't think I will take any more!
The story is extremely narcissistic. Maybe with a good editor it could have been more than watching someone's terrible home movies, but evidently this was a best seller. Yes she describes events in detail, but TMI, yawn!
I wanted to like this book. Pumas by any name (panthers, mountain lions (there is a nice list near the beginning of the book) are interesting animals, with all kinds of meanings in various cultures. I have had amazing learning experiences with dogs and horses, and learned about people through their cats.
But I didn't need to know how often her boots were full of water, or how many days she was between hot showers. Her unconscious, presumptuous writing style invoked no sympathy.
The book may be about how Laura and Wayra saved each other, But I think I will stay away from anything labeled "memoir" from now on.

Overwrought, choppy, and exploitive.

By the time i approached the end of this reading, I felt I was watching one of those History Channel shows where they give a summary after every break. And the too frequent chapter breaks enhanced the choppiness.
I am sorry, I have no patience for the the continual "AHA" moments where the information passed along is only that there was an "aha" moment with no description of what it was. It was way beyond teasing on toward exploitive manipulation. Was there an editor for this book? Or was this all Dan Brown on a bad couple of months? DaVinci Code is still a favorite

Wait until October of 2016 when Amazon says the unabridged version will be available. It is still Nicol Williamson!
