After the Civil War, the pillars of Black Republicanism were a balanced critique of both political parties, civil rights for all Americans, reinventing an economy based on exploitation, and, most importantly, building thriving Black communities. How did Black Republicanism devolve from revolutionaries like Frederick Douglass to the puppets in the Trump era?

An Original Truth Long Overdue
Revisado: 05-06-24
This is a wonderful book that speaks to issues and history that I have lived through, and a lot that came before me. It is very well written and narrated. The nuances the author explains—eg General Powell types who were true believers vs. Tim Scott types who just want to benefit individually—are highly informative, albeit concerning. Well done!

Historia
Monumental in scope and vividly detailed, Chocolate City tells the tumultuous, four-century story of race and democracy in our nation's capital. Emblematic of the ongoing tensions between America's expansive democratic promises and its enduring racial realities, Washington often has served as a national battleground for contentious issues, including slavery, segregation, civil rights, the drug war, and gentrification.

Really loved this discussion about DC’s history. The author takes you through pre-American Revolutionary War to the end of the Obama Administration. Meticulously detailed, yet also engaging. Highly recommended.

Venture through a history rarely told
Revisado: 10-24-22
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this audiobook. The author takes us through a time in African-American history that is rarely explored. And it is juxtaposed to a broader exploration of American history, from the prospectors in California to those who were seeking a better life in Oklahoma through the homestead act and many many more. This is a must read!
