Well Done
Revisado: 03-26-25
I enjoyed this very much. Good characters and story telling. The story was pretty clean which I appreciate, nothing explicit. However, as a note to parents, the villains are vile, and there was mention of the despicable practice of trafficking children, so be aware of your audience. The performance was excellent as always. Matthew Lloyd Davies is one of my favorite narrators. His ability to convey humor and sarcasm in his voice is gold.

Spaceships!
Revisado: 03-25-25
I love a good old fashion character driven space adventure; I am pretty much Benny from the Lego Movie, if you say, "Spaceship" you just made my day! (I totally I still own a VCR just so I can watch the original unedited Star Wars on VHS... so yeah, nerd and not sorry). This book was pretty heavy on plot setup, but was nevertheless very enjoyable. The characters were likeable, and were worth investing in, so I have already started book 2. I very much appreciate that this book didn't read like an indoctrination manual, because sometimes I want to just enjoy a story without feeling like I signed up to be brow beaten. Is that so much to ask these days? I also really appreciate that the story was clean, which is rare for military fiction. I know, I know, brand me with a big ol' H for homeschooler, but dime store romances are just just not thing, and I won't apologize for it. If I had one complaint, it is that I had trouble following and remembering all the minor characters, especially when the story jumped around. This could just be a me problem though, because I am terrible at remembering names I hear in real life, so when I'm multitasking 3 things while listening to an audio book, I'm pretty much hopeless. I thought the narrator did a great just, he had a great easy to listen to voice. Overall, I am glad I got a chance to embark on a new book adventure! Now on to book 2!

Living History- Great School Read
Revisado: 02-26-25
I appreciated this book very much. Rich in history, but very attainable through the story. I will definitely be adding this to my homeschooler's future reading list. It is written in the form of a grandfather telling his life story to his grandchildren. It of course deals with tales of mistreatment, discrimination, battles, injuries, and death, but steers clear of rough language, womanizing, or the more graphic horrors that could be recorded about Japanese occupation of the islands. It will definitely be on our school reading list in a few years.

Historia
The rumblings of war in distant countries mattered little to Danny McClain. Growing up in Chicago, his world revolved around afterschool jobs, a rescued beagle, his pen pal in Holland, and the Cubs' chance to go to the World Series. Then, in December of 1941, news of the attack on Pearl Harbor hit much too close to home. In a few years, Danny found himself in the copilot seat of a B-17, stationed with the 390th Bomb Group in Framlingham, England.

Well balanced Character Rich Story
Revisado: 02-20-25
I very much enjoyed this story. It was a good balance of story, history, and faith. My Grandpa was a B-17 tail gunner, and it took 60 years before he would talk to us about the war. Reading well researched retellings of the Army Air Force and other firsthand accounts always makes me close to him. Well done.

One of her Best!
Revisado: 02-14-25
Roseanna's writing style and themes have matured nicely over time, and this is definitely one of my new favorites! The Code Breakers was my favorite of her series that I've read thus far, and this book dovetails so snuggly, it could be a sequel.

Refreshing to Find Fiction of Substance
Revisado: 01-11-25
I Rarely can bring myself to finish a Christian romance novel, because they generally fail to rise above repetitive over-emotional internal monologs, with cardboard characters, and unrealistic interactions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book though! It had a bit of an Elizabeth Gaskell North and South feel. It wrestled with mature themes and topics, but was clean. It properly elevated the higher education of women, without demeaning marriage and motherhood. It made me want to dig into some of the historical backdrop that I was unfamiliar with, which is an aspect I appreciate in a historical novel.

Engaging, Clean, and Prettily Written
Revisado: 09-22-24
I really enjoy an engaging story, with likeable characters, and an old fashion since of honor and goodness. This fairy tale fulfilled all of these. My only complaint is that I now have to reconcile myself to the fact that I can't talk to horses and go live in the mountains. Sigh.
