Historia
When Kurt Cobain died by his own hand in April 1994, it was an act of will that typified his short, angry, inspired life. Veteran music journalist Charles R. Cross fuses his intimate knowledge of the Seattle music scene with his deep compassion for his subject in this extraordinary story of artistic brilliance and the pain that extinguished it.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

Historia
Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less.

Fun Read

The story centers on a woman on the autism spectrum. Though never revealed, if you listen carefully, you know it to be true. This is a lovely story. She stays true to herself and her Convenience Store.

Historia
Maxwell Smart was eleven years old when his entire family was killed before his eyes. He might have died along with them, but his mother selflessly ordered him to save himself. Alone in the forest, he dug a hole in the ground for shelter and foraged for food in farmers’ fields. His clothes in rags and close to starvation, he repeatedly escaped death at the hands of Nazis and Ukrainian thugs.

Remember the Past As Not To Repeat
Revisado: 11-13-22
This book is a quick read. Many years pass very quickly. I would have liked to hear more details of the many years the boy lived in the woods. I am happy to have read the book though. The hate being brought upon the Jewish again in 2022 is a reminder to look back at history and remember it can happen again so very easily.

Historia
Mike Rinder’s parents began taking him to their local Scientology center when he was five years old. After high school, he signed a billion-year contract and was admitted into Scientology’s elite inner circle, the Sea Organization. Brought to founder L. Ron Hubbard’s yacht and promised training in Hubbard’s most advanced techniques, Rinder was instead put to work swabbing the decks. Still, Rinder bought into the doctrine that his personal comfort was secondary to the higher purpose of Hubbard’s world-saving mission.

More Crazy
Revisado: 11-09-22
This book takes you on Mike Rinders journey thru what is an amazing story of being a cultists to really "going clear". It amazes me that a grown man is able to be so honest about believing in LRH even after escaping the the gates of Scientology. How a person with Mike's intelligence could be so sucked into the crazy that is LRH & Scientology is fascinating and spooky at the same time. Reading this will give you a deeper understanding of all things LRH & Scientology and the damage it is doing to people, families, and communities.

Many people dream of escaping modern life, but most will never act on it. This is the remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality—not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own.

Hermit or Monk
Revisado: 10-18-22
This true story is written well, the reader is perfect for telling the story. His Maine accent is authentic when using the voice of The Stranger. I listened to the book in short order as it was compelling to the end. A nice dose of history of "hermits" is included as well as a list of books to read on the subject.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

A new Fairy Tale, perhaps, but this one brings many old ones to the forefront. I enjoyed the reader. I love Radar. The cricket is helpful. The mermaid, sad. I want a sundial in my world...but only to use cautiously. Lots to wonder about and lots to believe in.

Historia
In 2019, veteran journalist Mark Seal began investigating the suspicious death of music mogul Peter Ikin. Just 32 days before he was found dead in his Paris hotel room, Ikin had married a handsome, debonair Frenchman named Alexandre, who would claim to be entitled to his late husband’s fortune. As Seal dug into the case, he had no idea that tracing the incredible life of Alexandre Despallieres would take him from Paris to London to Beverly Hills, and unspool a web of intricate plots and deceptions.

Historia
Loosely inspired by a true story, this tender portrait of marriage asks: What do you do when the person you love has to change? It starts with a question, a simple favor asked by a wife of her husband while both are painting in their studio, setting off a transformation neither can anticipate. Uniting fact and fiction into an original romantic vision, The Danish Girl eloquently portrays the unique intimacy that defines every marriage and the remarkable story of Lili Elbe, a pioneer in transgender history.

I watched The Danish Girl first in Netflix and knew I had to read the book. The narrator is brilliant, giving the dignity deserved by the main characters. I will read this again. and I've already watched the movie twice.
