Historia
Centuries ago the human race fought its first great war against an alien race - and lost. A tiny population of human beings fled to distant Safehold. Centuries later their descendants have forgotten their history; for them, life has been an eternal Middle Ages, ruled by the Church of God Awaiting, whose secret purpose is to prevent the reemergence of industrial civilization. But not all of Safehold's founders were onboard with this plan. Those dissidents left behind their own secret legacies.

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Not ruined
Revisado: 02-17-23
Interesting style of narration, it threw me off at first but I got used to it and it worked just fine for the book. I would call this style constantly exuberate. there's no flat reading at all, it's all with massive maximum emotion in everything.
The text itself was excellent. a very exciting pickup from the series.

Historia
The Charisian Empire, born in war, has always known it must fight for its very survival. What most of its subjects don’t know even now, however, is how much more it’s fighting for. Emperor Cayleb, Empress Sharleyan, Merlin Athrawes, and their innermost circle of most trusted advisers do know. And because they do, they know the penalty if they lose will be far worse than their own deaths and the destruction of all they know and love.

When voice acting and production ruins it
Revisado: 01-13-23
it was a terrible struggle to listen to. The narrator has a great voice and is a great reader but there were times when completely different voices were used for the same characters, even in the same conversation! The narration switched from between Winnie the Pooh to a European villain. The narration lacked consistency. The voices lacked consistency. I don't know what happened here, there were times when the sound volume and pitched changed, nearly mid-sentence. The whole thing just sounded amateurish and I just don't get it, the previous books weren't like that and you would think that this book deserved way better.
Putting aside the book wrecking terribleness of the narration, this is as good as the first book in the series, nearly the best one yet. It was a weird juxtaposition to be getting into some of the best parts of the series and have the narration just go south like this.

Historia
Young Cayleb Ahrmahk has accomplished things few people could even dream of. Not yet even thirty years old, he’s won the most crushing naval victories in human history. He’s smashed a hostile alliance of no less than five princedoms and won the hand of the beautiful young Queen Sharleyan of Chisholm. Cayleb and Sharleyan have created the Charisian Empire, the greatest naval power in the history of Safehold, and they’ve turned Charis into a place of refuge for all who treasure freedom.

Great Story and finally buttoned up narration
Revisado: 12-17-22
Finally the narration team responsible for this title got it together. In The last installment of the series, we had a new narrator. An extremely experienced and usually excellent narrator, but it all went south and ruined the entire book pretty much. This is the same narrator, except this time the voices make a bit more sense, since the last installment it seems the narrator chose a better voice for one of the main characters (Merlin) and I guess the people responsible for editing this decided to use the same voices this time instead of having a character sound five different ways throughout the book. Bravo! The writing wasn't ruined this time! I can't imagine what caused the last one to be so terrible, and then this one works out pretty well. But whatever caused all that to be straightened out, thank you!
As for the work itself, the written word, I enjoyed it. The think about works from this author is that you either like them or you don't, they are wordy, and the author plays out every little bit of conversation and intrigue which not everybody likes, but I really do. I will say that I can't argue that this one is about the slowest and wordiest in the author's history but okay, luckily I like that.

The Kingdom of Charis and the Kingdom of Chisholm have joined together, pledged to stand against the tyranny of a corrupt Church. The youthful Queen Sharleyan of Chisholm has wed King Cayleb of Charis, forging a single dynasty, a single empire, dedicated to the defense of human freedom. Crowned Empress of that empire, Sharleyan has found in Cayleb's arms the love she never dared hope for in a "marriage of state." In Cayleb's cause, his defiance of the ruthless Group of Four who govern mother Church, she has found the task to which she can commit her mind and her courage.

When a narrator can ruin it all
Revisado: 10-23-22
I would have thought a book by this author would get better. A great book but the reader used an array of accents for the main characters. There was very little consistency. The protagonist 'Merlin' used three accents and three different timbres of voice. It was ridiculous and took a good book and made it bad. Totally ruined the experience.

Amazing

Amazing. Exactly the kind of story that I normally do not like but it was fabulous I was hooked on every word. the voice actor who read the story was amazing, one of the best I've ever heard. She really brought the story to life. Left me wanting more and I hope that there are sequels to this book!

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth's terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity's great empire fell, and the program's decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it's been waiting for them.

Historia
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

A Real Struggle
Revisado: 11-12-19
Haphazard story which would seem on conclusion to be intentional but honestly it was just chaotic and difficult to listen to. The voice actor who did the narration was obviously skilled and had consistent voices but I felt like the voices used were completely wrong for the whole thing. it almost felt like someone was reading me a science fiction novel in a completely out of place noir style voice. overall, terrible.
