An excellent audiobook!
Revisado: 12-19-08
This is a gripping audiobook, one that keeps you awake at night and forces you to reset your iPod's sleep timer time and time again. Great narration, only wish this was the unabridged version, I am wondering what I might have missed. Any chance of Parts II and III anytime soon?

Historia
In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

I have listened to many enjoyable audio books, but this is by far the best. I finished the entire 15 hours in 2 days, and I shall listen again, and again. Don't think, just add to your library.

Ditching Atkins, Hello Perricone
Revisado: 09-24-05
I lost 70 pounds in 6 months on the Atkins, 18 months ago. I have kept this weight off and feel great. I know the diet inside and out, but have had problems leaving it behind. I have also developed sugar cravings. I think Perricone may be the sensible way forward, and having got the audio book 2 days ago, I have listened twice and made notes on the "super star" foods and supplements. The basis for the diet is low carb, or low glycemic, but there is more balance to this diet and Perricone encourages a completely balanced diet for every meal. The analysis of food and supplements is very current and in great detail, there is a blue print for you to follow, and the food choices and combinations are excellent. Being at my target weight, I do not need to lose weight but to maintain my current weight. I think this diet will be excellent for this, and move me away from saturated fats and re-introduce fruits, which are realistically not part of Atkins. For those needing to lose weight I think this is a realistic approach, that will easily fit into your lifestyle. It is not extreme in nature, like the 2 week "induction" phase of Atkins, but I imagine weight loss will be slower. However the principles are much the same, no sugar, pasta, bread, fries, cookies etc. Perricone preaches a natural approach and I think that in the long term, will realise excellent weight loss and health benefits. I am now on the diet and can report that I feel good and have enjoyed some foods that I have not been able to eat under the Atkins maintainence phase. On the downside, I think that the 14-day approach talked of in the recording is "fad-diet" in style and does not give the listener confidence that this is a lifetime based approach to healthy living. I think this is the main strength of the Perricone approach and should be stressed rather than a 14-day "10 pound" loss type gimic. All in all, as a diet "expert" I regard this as a very valuable work and well worth the money!

Historia
Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the frist and last time since his stroke. What he says before he dies is that there will be five dark days in the life of his grandson.

This was the worst Koontz I have read to date, loving his other works. I think this is partly due to the narrator and due to some aspects of the characters. I found paddle toed Jimmy rather annoying, so much so that I hoped he did get blown away on one of the five fateful days. Pity for the story that he did not, as all suspense was lost early on knowing that he would survive all 5 days intact. Jimmy and Lori were just so smug with their otherwise perfect little life, it made me reach for the nausea pills on more than one occaision. Consider other Koontz before this one.

First impressions
Revisado: 11-17-04
I listened and completed the first hour of this book last night, it is excellent. The teaching process is most intuitive and I found the phrases more or less instantly etched into my memory, I can recall the words and phrases clearly today. I have no past experience of Japanese and for the sirts time in learning a new language (I have struggled with Thai for 8 years living in Bangkok) I feel a clear way forward. Does Dr. Pimsleur make a Thai version?
