Historia
Are you writing a novel, but having trouble getting your first draft written? You've heard of "outlining," but that sounds too rigid for you. You've heard of "organic writing," but that seems a bit squishy to you. Take a look at the wildly popular Snowflake Method - a battle-tested series of 10 steps that jump-start your creativity and help you quickly map out your story. All around the world, novelists are using the Snowflake Method right now to ignite their imaginations and get their first drafts down on paper. In this book, you'll follow the story of a fictitious novelist as she learns to tap into the amazing power of the Snowflake Method. Almost magically, she finds her story growing from a simple idea into a deep and powerful novel. And she finds her novel changing her - turning her into a stronger, more courageous person.

Treats the readers as children
Revisado: 03-30-23
The whole book is written as an allegory with goldilocks and baby bear in a classroom, wasting our precious time with fluff and useless dialogue to get to the point of the method. thanks God I was able to return the book before hitting the halfway mark. DO NOT buy it.

Do not buy this!!!
Revisado: 03-22-23
Horrible book on writing short stories. The authors cover only the most basic and obvious advice (wanna improve your dialogue? Read it out loud! Wanna write a good ending? Tie your lose ends - wow, who would've thought?)
There is ONE chapter on making money... and it's about self publishing, growing an email list and being active on social media? Really? What sage advice!
The authors also keep name-dropping their book, and that's when you understand what this book here is about: driving the sales of their other projects, not really teaching you anything. Seriously, there are many better books out there (go read Stein on Writing). This one is not worth the money.

Historia
Consciousness, a unique and perplexing mental state, has been the subject of debate for philosophers and scientists for millennia. And while it is widely agreed within contemporary philosophy that consciousness is a problem whose solutions are likely to determine the fate of any number of other problems, there is no settled position on the ultimate nature of consciousness. This series of 12 penetrating and thought-provoking lectures by an acclaimed teacher and scholar approaches its subject directly and unflinchingly.

The subject is great, the teacher not so much
Revisado: 09-17-18
Consciousness is my favorite subject, but the initial lectures were very confusing, and it seemed to me that the teacher was meandering around definitions and ideas without actually getting to any point in particular. The last lectures get a little bit better, but still I felt like some focus was missing.
For the ones actually interested in this topic, I would strongly recommend the lectures from professor Patrick Grim in his course of phylosophy of mind. It is basically the same subject, but with much more focus and a more compreheensible delivery.

Historia
Over the last century, global poverty has largely been viewed as a technical problem that merely requires the right "expert" solutions. Yet all too often, experts recommend solutions that fix immediate problems without addressing the systemic political factors that created them in the first place. Further, they produce an accidental collusion with "benevolent autocrats", leaving dictators with yet more power to violate the rights of the poor.

Strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the debate of democracy vs technocracy, and also the case for why all humans should have equal rights.

The greatest obstacle to sound economic policy is not entrenched special interests or rampant lobbying, but the popular misconceptions, irrational beliefs, and personal biases held by ordinary voters. This is economist Bryan Caplan's sobering assessment in this provocative and eye-opening book.

I'm not a libertarian, but loved the book. Gives a welcoming new perspective on democracy, especially if you always questioned yourself about its true efficacy.
