How does this rate highly in any woman's world?
Revisado: 01-23-25
The narration is very good but otherwise this story is horrible. The woman goes through a series of really crappy circumstances to then have a windfall of good things happen, to then work for and eventually fall in love with a man who is a sex addict who screws every woman he can -and we're to believe that is only "til now?" He has a long line of poor rich boy deeply seeded issues, and is abusive. Meanwhile she's made out to be a self depricating middle aged mouse who is starstruck by his poshness. What is the point of this story? How does this scenario rate highly in any woman's world?

Forced to confront her family’s dark history or risk perpetuating it for generations to come, the woman sets out to do what her mother and grandmother before her never could.

Powerful
Revisado: 09-13-22
Starts out like a visit to grandma's house and quickly unfolds multigenerational trauma, all neatly packed away and then perfectly baked in an hour session where the 3rd generation finally gives voice and takes control. How many of us have lived through this?

One of the most significant works on our evolutionary ancestry since Richard Leakey's Origins, The First Signs is the first-ever exploration of the geometric images that accompany most cave art around the world—the first indications of symbolic meaning, intelligence, and language.

Scientist with no sense
Revisado: 05-21-22
The tone of this story demonstrates academia remains clueless and careless for those who came before us, demeaning to the importance of the arts in life throughout time and into our current society. Statements such as "art has no bearing on survival" and "why would people go into caves with nothing more than a torch to make art?" grate on my being as an artist and historian.

Barrie Anne Blythe and her aunt Charlotte have always known that the other residents of their small coastal community find them peculiar - two women living alone on the outskirts of town. It is the price of concealing their strange and dangerous family secret. But two events threaten to upend their lives forever. Interesting, but I found the main character/heroine rather pathetic and many parts of the story predictable. Oh well

Historia
Widely hailed as a spiritual classic, this inspirational and unfailingly powerful story reveals the life and visions of the Lakota healer Nicholas Black Elk (1863–1950) and the tragic history of his Sioux people during the epic closing decades of the Old West. In 1930, the aging Black Elk met a kindred spirit, the famed poet, writer, and critic John G. Neihardt (1881–1973) on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

A story every man & woman should hear
Revisado: 02-13-17
This is not a story to love or hate. It just is. It is a man's story, his experience, his journey, his vision that stretches through all time and all nations. It is something to hold in your heart. You cannot listen without being moved.
