This is a very long book but at no time was I bored or thinking it was plodding. A very enjoyable performance and a great story.

Outstanding performance of a delightful story
Revisado: 06-20-12
Would you consider the audio edition of I Am Half-Sick of Shadows to be better than the print version?
The Flavia de Luce stories are wonderfully read by Jayne Entwistle. I started this series with the audiobook and have not been able to read them. The listening experience is far superior. Entwistle does a fantastic job of bringing Flavia's emotions to life and every second of this story is pure joy.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Interesting characters keep the story going while the listener tries to predict what will happen next. This series is a great set of mysteries and the characters are wonderful.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scenes usually involve multiple characters because Entwistle does such a great job with their voices.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could hardly force myself to stop listening as the story progressed.
Any additional comments?
This is an excellent series for older children who like mysteries. Flavia is an 11-year-old chemistry prodigy whose family has some interesting secrets. I just love these books and can't wait for another one!

Historia
Jacky Faber, having been called a pirate and had a price put on her head by the King of England, has no choice but to stay out of sight. Hoping for a safe hiding place, she returns to the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston, but the calm doesn't last long. On a class field trip to Boston Harbor, the girls are abducted and forced into the hold of the Bloodhound, a ship bound for the slave markets on the Barbary Coast where they will be put up on the auction block and sold into Arab harems.

Great story for older readers
Revisado: 08-07-09
This is yet another fantastic book in the "Bloody Jack" series. The second I finished #3, I rushed in to get this one. Be warned though: there is quite a bit more sexual content in this book than in the others. The girls are to be sold as sex slaves, and one is judged as "a fine specimen to warm a sultan's bed." While no sexual activity actually takes place it is mentioned in the book frequently.
As usual the narration of this book is out of this world and makes the adventures of "Bloody Jack" so much more exciting than just reading it. I think everyone should hear this series instead of read it!
