Historia
Forget minor hazards like nuclear bombs. The discovery of time travel means that everything we know, anyone we know, might not only vanish, but never even have existed. Against that possibility stand the men and women of the Time Patrol, dedicated to preserving the history they know and protecting the future from fanatics, terrorists, and would-be dictators who would remold the shape of reality to suit their own purposes.

I can not listen to this Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 09-05-20
I love Poul Anderso, have for decades... but even his excellent writing can not hold up to this sophomoric pretender of a Narrator. I may have to return this audio book for a credit ( whichout of 400+ books I've only done twice)...such a waste of a great story.
The narrator sounds like a College Jock trying to fake his way through an 101 Acting Class... insulting attempts at accents,
no idea how to use syntax or puntuation... just flat out irritating from to start... I hope Tantor Audio (who normally have Great Narrators, even mediocre ones) will re record this novel...

Revisado: 10-25-18
I have read/listened to all but 1 of Jack McDevitt’s Academy series…I was very disappointed by this latest installment. I rate this a 2 out of 5…..It is almost as if Mr. McDevitt forgot that he had written the other 7 books… I enjoyed the other books a great deal. This one seems as though someone else wrote it…It ignores so much of the other book’s logical science base, and previous characters who should have been involved. It has been dumbed down, it portrays all of the characters as simplistic fools, including the main character Hutch. They fumble through the story and discover other alien races and cultures that are so unrealistic. Considering the previous stories that had plausibleility , this one…1950’s New York Type offices with telephone’s et al??? I had to struggle to stay with this book, it was so childlike (and not in a good way). All I can say is a quote from the Leader of this exposition when he gets too frustrated by the situations he’s created “What Ever”
I hope Jack writes a better thought out story in the next installment.

This boxed set contains 3 complete science-fiction novels. This is science-fiction at its best - future engineering, intrigue, first contact. It’s a space opera like none you’ve experienced before. The audiobooks will keep you listening late into the night, and you won't be able to stop....

It reads/listens like an DYI Auto Manual....
Revisado: 07-23-18
I’m a Long time Hard Science, Nuts and Bolts Sci Fi Fan… but this was just too much.. Reading the Publishers summary made this sound like a great Hard Core SciFi trilogy…”Three complete novels. Almost 1,000 pages of lighting-paced action. Anyone who is a fan of Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, David Weber will love Jack L. Knapp.” “Fans of Carl Sagan, Arthur C. Clarke, and Jerry Pournelle will love this hard SF series.”
"A real 'hard' science fiction novel. Jack Knapp continues to write a good story. I love that his editing is also superb. No more errors than I’d find in a professionally published book." - Ronald Q. Smith”
REALLY? I wish I had read the trilogy they discribed! A bit of an insult to the authors that this is compared to… Fast Paced??? I don’t think so, it is doggedly slow…
It reads/Listens like a Basic do it yourself auto manual…I appreciate the level of detail, however a lot goes a long way!! And its all dialog, with little narrative, which gets very boring, very quickly. It feels like this is the first novel written by an aspiring author, and his style seems very simplistic, no color at all… he skims over the interesting parts, and settles for high word count for the petty details…… overall, I cannot recommend this book to anyone.
As to the Narrator, well, he has a nice voice, but my lord, he cannot do accents to save his life! I winced a lot … in between just trying to understand what he said, and he does not have much skill in differentiating the different characters….they All sound the same… I’ll have to avoid this reader in the future, to frustrating to listen to, specially with a trilogy this long!
If it wasn’t for the fact this author has other works, I’d say nice 1st try, I like the concept, but the end result is very poor. Too bad…

Good story, could have been so much more
Revisado: 01-24-18
The story was good, but within the context, and exploration of the subject, it could have been so much more. The story line and science developed, well, it could have been expanded wider, showing the character's asperations acheived fuller. There was a great deal of potential here for filling out that technological advancement ... but like so much Sci Fi these days, it fell flat toward the end, and took the easy emotional and technological way out.

It's not the recording it's the reader.
Revisado: 07-23-17
As mentioned in the other reviews, the performance of this book has a problem. The reader of this book in an attempt to make it more dramatic fluctuates her voice from normal to a whisper. By doing so it is very difficult to hear key points of the dialogue on multiple devices. I do not think that remastering this audio recording would do any good, it's all in the performance.
As to the story itself, it is engaging and fun… However it reads as if it is the first novel of a series. The first volume being the backstory and set up for the next, I would assume , Multiple stories/Adventures for the Ness Sisters.

In a world renowned even within a galaxy full of wonders, a crime within a war. For one man it means a desperate flight, and a search for the one - maybe two - people who could clear his name. For his brother it means a life lived under constant threat of treachery and murder. And for their sister, even without knowing the full truth, it means returning to a place she'd thought abandoned forever.

Falls apart at the end...
Revisado: 06-18-14
I've enjoyed the Culture Novels, and was fairly well enjoying this one up to the end, until it totally fell apart… I was looking forward to a conclusion that would tie all of the parts together, but it seemed that Mr. Banks just ran out of steam, or time, or something, because all of a sudden the story ended in what seemed to be half a chapter of nothing.
No conclusions, or explanations, just kill of all the characters, save one, and hang the ending on a non secreter. I will try again with another Banks story, but would like to know what the hell happened to this one?

Richard K. Morgan has received widespread praise for his astounding 25th-century novels featuring Takeshi Kovacs, and has established a growing legion of fans. Mixing classic noir sensibilities with a searing futuristic vision of an age when death is nearly meaningless, Morgan returns to his saga of betrayal, mystery, and revenge, as Takeshi Kovacs, in one fatal moment, joins forces with a mysterious woman who may have the power to shatter Harlan's World forever.

I agree with rest other reviews...horrible mistake
Revisado: 04-11-13
I agree with the other reviews... a horrible mistake in changing the Narrator !
And this seems to be a trend... this is now the third series I've listened to from Audible that has change out the narrator after 2 or 3 novels, then finished up with a loser for the last in the series! Do you not read the reviews you ask us to give you....don't change out the Narrators!
Further, I am not sure, do to the narration, and obviously bad sound effects in Woken Furies, if this story was lacking the quality writing the first two volumes had, or if the writing was just sloppy on the third book. Either way, I would like to see another installment in this series, maybe with alittle more reference to the previous stories plot lines, and just PLEASE chose your narrator a little more thoughtfully next time!

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Yes, this narrator is horrible... And exhausting .
Revisado: 02-18-13
I agree with the other reviews, I have listened to all 6 books back to back, and this guy is Horrible! Did he even listen to any of the previous books? Changing pronunciations, accents, (which he has no ability at) over all I found his energy totally exhausting!
As to the author, I may try Mr. Weber again, but it will not be soon. I enjoyed the 1st book, it set up an fascinating storyline... But by the 2nd, it feels like he was being paid by the word.... My god man, get to the point! I love a good long narrative read, but this has been truly stupidly too much. Also this is a science fiction novel, yes? If I wanted a fictional account of either religious history, or the evolution of arms and sailing ships, I would have gone to better novels!
To top it all off, if you can't at least come to some conclusion after 6 very long books, please let us know before we get through 4 of them. I tried to be fair, and give this series the benefit of the doubt, so I read them all... Egads.. I am truely disappointed, and very frustrated. I really would have loved to see how it would end, the arch angels coming back, the Gababa, showing up, oh I don't know, the science in the science fiction... But I won't. By the time Weber gets around to completing this saga, I'll be 90, (I'm only 50 now), and I won't give a damn!
