Brie knew it was a mistake to warn the hunter about the approaching danger facing the Alliance compound. She learned long ago that getting involved resulted in pain. However, she couldn’t resist trying to help, and now she’s paying for her mistake.

Whispered Narration, Dragging Story
Revisado: 04-06-23
I was dying for this book to end…same as the last one. Not because it wasn’t a good story, but because the narrator WHISPERED THE WHOLE THING. Action scene? Whisper. Crying emotional story share? Whisper. The story wasn’t as good as the previous ones, focusing on the character’s inner, mundane thoughts so much that the story wasn’t really even there. Then it starts to get good in the last three minutes and ends on a cliffhanger. Again. I think I’m letting this one go on hanging. I can’t deal with the narrator a third time when the story doesn’t even have a decent plot. Time to move on!

Historia
Vampire King Ronan Kayrs wasn't supposed to survive the savage sacrifice he willingly endured to rid the world of the ultimate evil. He wasn't supposed to emerge in this time and place, and he sure as hell wasn't supposed to finally touch the woman who's haunted his dreams for centuries. Yet here he is, in an era where vampires are hidden, the enemy has grown stronger, and his mate has no idea of the power she holds.

HORRIBLE Narration GREAT story!
Revisado: 07-28-22
This narrator seductively whispered, added a horribly sharp “sh” sound at the end of every s, and had ZERO emotion or inflection behind anything she read. I couldn’t get past it to finish listening to the book.
The story, however, is a fun spin-off for the Dark Protectors series. I just have to read them instead of listen because she is just awful to listen to.

Language
Revisado: 05-22-21
I liked the story, but struggled with the narrator making every woman sound either like a valley girl or whiny brat, and her males like surfer dudes (with the exception of the main male character constantly growling). I am no prude, and I know what I’m getting into when I read these books, but also didn’t appreciate the author’s CONSTANT use of the “p-word” in every reference to it. It was so overused, it ruined the moment of the story for me every time. That sort of dirty talk all the time makes it comical instead of sultry. It’s a decent storyline, though!

A little disappointing
Revisado: 02-19-21
There was a big build up and relationship development was slow, which I liked, but the major conflict for most of the story was internal and solved in a highly anticlimactic way. Then a second conflict was short but explosive. The juicy bits were VERY sparse, which was super disappointing, too. I’m still continuing the series, but this one wasn’t my favorite.

Historia
Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception.

Good book; only one complaint
Revisado: 04-30-19
I am loving this series! The only thing that is driving me nuts is the author’s massive overuse of “shot/gave/giving her a ——- look.” I need her to switch from “she gave him a wry look” to something like “she looked at him wryly.” Adverbs are good!

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Not worth the time or money
Revisado: 06-15-18
Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed in both the story and the performance of the novel. I won’t be reading more of Anne Rice, and I won’t be listening to anything ready by Kate Reading again. The story was overly and irritatingly detailed in unnecessary portions. It took FOREVER to finally get to the point. The voices and strange inflection of the narrator were annoying and didn’t match the character. One of the main characters, Michael, from New Orleans, was voiced as a New Yorker, and Rowan always sounded lazy, asleep, and tired. The ending was horrendous. I wish I had my money back, but to each, his own!
