Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Engaging and Interesting
Revisado: 04-24-24
I really liked the storytelling structure of this book. It was interesting to slowly learn the background of the protagonist and the events that led up to the events occurring. There was a lot of complicated science in the book, but it’s interspersed with a very human story. I truly and deeply enjoyed the story.

Historia
Thomas Covenant is a leper, a bitter and solitary pariah who is mystically transported to another Earth where time moves differently than ours, one in which magic takes many forms. The Land is threatened by many evils, the most immediate of which is a maddened Cavewight whose subterranean excavations have unearthed the ancient and puissant Staff of Law. More dangerous to the free people of the Land is the Gray Slayer, Lord Foul, the Despiser, who intends to destroy the actual foundations of the Earth that he might wage war against the universe’s creator.

Tried to Like
Revisado: 01-29-24
I truly tried to like this book. The protagonist is despicable and whiny, the story a bit rambling and the character development is inconsistent. It’s obvious that the author has skill in writing but I just couldn’t get through the story line. I also get that this is the first book in a very long series, but I’ll pass. I couldn’t finish this first book. I tried very hard to do so.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Extraordinarily beautiful
Revisado: 08-22-23
I’ve seldom read such a beautiful, poetic and visually dynamic story. I was brought to tears many times. The book’s masterfully written prose and the author’s ability to create an atmosphere of poignant communion with the characters captivated me wholly. Abraham Verghese is an extremely gifted writer. He somehow manages to tell a sweeping and very lengthy story about ordinary people that nevertheless keeps the reader riveted. I truly did not want this book to end.
