This is the backstory about side character Reid Archer and his life before pledging his sword to Captain Khouri, from Quest of the Dreamwalker.
His and Maura's love story have so many sweet elements, and watching Reid, a simple hunter/ musician/storyteller fall in love with the chieftain's daughter, the beautiful headstrong Maura, is delightful. Reid's stories are fantastic, and I was so lost in one to the point I was frustrated when he stopped in the middle of it and I yelled "Wait, no!"

Stacy is one of those authors that yank you into their worlds, and you come out blinking!
This particular book has stories within stories, think Secondhand Lions or Princess Bride, from the narration side.
No spice, but tension, and sweet romance, a touch of a love triangle, and eventual HEA to come.

Narration was done well.

Olivia Wildenstein has created a sumptuous new world, detailed and layered like a parfait, featuring lush forests and mountains, and a main focal city,  divided up and reminiscent of Venice, Italy. Here, the canals divide the aristocracy/Purelings from the less fortunate Halflings and then again, the humans.  Where your hair length, pointed ears, and magical abilities can get you anything, but the less fortunates, the halflings and humans, are 2nd and 3rd class citizens.

The main languages are based off Italian and Gaelic, and the glossary is perfect to reference when in doubt.

-Fallon is young & idealistic, a bit naïve (wanted to shake her a few times), half water fae, with an unusual affinity with animals, she grew up on the wrong side of the canal, an outsider FMC whose character grows and succeeds where others cannot, despite betrayals and secrets
-A delicious MMC that's my newest book boyfriend, but I won't mention who, you'll have to decide who that is for yourself. His banter is fabulous! Definetly the morally gray boyfriend we all want!
-Fantastic side characters, such as her ride or die bffs Phoebus (absolutely fabulous) & Sybille
-Betrayal
-Secret rebellion
-Royalty espinoge
-Hidden identity
-Prophecy, she has to complete a task to become queen
-Fae rule
-Luscious world building
-Slow burn, one smexy scene, slight spice (Book 2 is spicy!)
-Mysterious pasts and histories revealed
-Touch her and 💀 vibes-A bit of a love triangle

I loved this introduction to The Crow Kingdom world, but really wanted to shake a couple of the characters and slap some sense into them. But as they grow, as more and more is revealed, I loved them and can't wait to watch their journey! There are some huge decisions to be made as things stand, and how Olivia sometimes does her character relationships (much like SJM) you can't always be positive who the love interest will actually be. Though I REALLY am team-, oh wait, I can't tell you! You'll have to read and make that decision for yourself!😏 Enjoy, my friends! For I am invested in this world, and am anxiously awaiting House of Pounding Hearts to hit as an audiobook, and really hope these narrators are back as well!

Narrator Olivia did a fantastic job of being the full cast, I could absolutely tell who was talking at all times, further, she put all the emotion, banter, and excitement in, making it come alive! When Tim comes in at the epilogue, it made me wish they'd read it in duet, but I'm not taking anything away from Olivia's narration, I just believe they'd complement each other really well.  Fabulous job all the way around!!

Swashbuckling Princess Bride with ALL the feels

You know the feeling when you're just giddy about a book after reading it, and hella excited to read the next one? Maybe even wanting to just start back over to see if you missed anything? That's the Forsaken Trilogy, and this is the 2nd one. You DO need to read A Prisoner of Steel and Shadow first, if you haven't yet.  It's part of The Chosen world, but the trilogy can be read on its own. The fact that it is a Princess Bride retelling with all the best elements, and reconstructed with assassins, puts it in my top five of the year!

Meg Anne not only creates these fantastic worlds and dimensions, but mixes in action adventure and wild twists like confetti, sprinkles in love and devotion, drops in these new intriguing side characters like Bronn, Calypso, Jagger the Unseeing with his amazing sidekick(one I'd totally would love to have), and Cookie (such a freaking cinnamon roll) and oh, did I meantion they're pirates?!
MegAnne then tosses in a dose of slow burn to scorching spice! If you think you know how it's going, you're utterly wrong! I love every minute of the twists and wild turns, even as she rips out my heart, stomps on it, then later comes back to heal it again. She adds all the feels, all the bromance (love Bast!) all the devotion o (Ronan, absolute book boyfriend material), and then ends it with one of her classic cliffhanger-type endings, leaving you on the hook squirming until she comes along with the net to catch you and throw you back into the deep with the next book.
I pulled an all-nighter and sailed right through this! I'm so ready for the next one!  I can't wait for more about Bast and the pirates, those mysterious backgrounds always snag my brain's attention, and I NEED MORE!

The unbelievable duo of Shane East and Stella Hunter with featured James Joseph cannot go wrong! Velvet voices bring everything from hope & happiness to absolute despair and sorrow in such a way that you are IN anything they narrate. I can't rave enough about them!

Spin offs are not always great, sometimes they are mediocre. Yet this particular spin off to the Honey and Ice Trilogy? Well, it's fantastic! Set 3 years after the events in Crown of Petals and Ice, it's filled with all the wild action, mysterious happenings, and comedic relief you could want, along with slow burn steam. This can be read alone, however, to understand Underhill & the events leading up to this book, it wouldn't hurt to go back and read the trilogy. There are some Easter eggs and old friends that show up, but it is mostly about the feral-raised Silver in all her stark honesty, belief in balance, and endearing naïvety. Her upbringing broke my heart in some ways, but without it, she couldn't be the ultimate kickass female she is.
I loved "Silver", enjoyed seeing Kik and Queen of all Fae again, and adored little Orlaith "Orry", the golden bat with a hairstyling fetish, who is so much more than she appears. (She reminds me of Lila from the Desert Cursed series.) I can't wait to get her backstory! Then there's "Green Orbs" Aaden who understands "Silver's" succinct speech, and then grumpy Cormac AKA "Asshole" who also understands her & is much like her in their fighting, but annoys her and has "Silver" wanting to unalive him from their first meeting. Both males are interested and it makes for hilarity when her views of attractiveness were taught by a land Kelpie who prefers horse attributes over all.
Toss in an evil invasion and missing children, and you have a wild romp in and out of fae and human lands. I ripped through so fast, hardly able to stop and deal with holiday preparations, and stayed up late into the night just to find out what was going to happen next.
I have my theories of what may happen from the clues dropped, but will keep them to myself here. For if there's anything I know about the writing duo of Shannon Mayer & Kelly St. Clare, they'll point you one direction, but tap your opposite shoulder & like spin the bottle, you'll land in a completely unseen direction! I love twists, especially one's that I never see coming, and these authors are experts at it.
That ending! Such a hook! I turned the page, and felt like I'd been in a full speed carriage that suddenly came to a jarring stop and was still rocking! The next book can't come fast enough, I need to know all the things!

The narrator did a fabulous job, and funnily enough, the character I enjoyed her bringing to life the most was Orry in all her sassy glory!

Not knowing what to expect, Taken by Fate quickly wrapped me up in the storyline and kept me enthralled late into the night! The opulence, danger, mystery, and political intrigue were on point, plus the wicked steam was 🥵.
The "do whatever necessary to keep loved ones safe" resonated throughout.
Starting with Sienna- scrappy, resourceful, animal lover, and an overall sparkplug! She struggles to conform, but her sass wins out more often than not. She's the "most likely to fail" contender, and fights to get in the safe zone. What she doesn't count on is the "monster" vampire who bought her & her attraction to him.
Dark, broody Dominic, the bastard son of the King, and General of King Stirling's armies, is stuck between fangs and stone, the outlier, the one who never lets his guard down, who'd do ANYTHING to keep his loved ones safe, gets his heart handed to him by Sienna and it is so delicious! When he busts out with the "Who touched you?" It just hit right. He can't succumb to his feelings, which are more obvious than he thinks, and keeps pushing her away. Just when I thought something would happen been them, bam, a bit of a cliffhanger!
Add in royal intrigue, side characters like cinnamon roll William and the bossy Duchess that hides her feelings, and then toss in creepy, evil characters and you have a page-flipping, sleep-deprived night you won't regret! I'm very curious about the other territories and a few other mysteries & mentions, and thank all that's holy that the next two books will be out first half of 2023!

The narration was good and portrayed all the wild emotions and situations.

James Wolven's smooth voice, paired with the unique score, truly gave this an other worldly feel. I did have to speed it up a little, his pacing is a bit bit slow for my taste, but he gives a good performance.

Enter the lands of Orynthia! Where the world building and culture descriptions are extensively riveting, and the morally gray characters steadily open up and grow, though some slower than others. The storyline is peppered with twisty politics, rich cultures, and new languages, plus mysteries that tug on my "gotta know what's happening" strings. Then there's the time-old predjudices that seem to breach all barriers of genre, fact and fiction, and that's where Luscia and Zaethan's enemies-to-allies-to-maybe-something-else dynamic checks off one of my favorite trope boxes, so yes, I'm absolutely invested in this series! Truly my newest obsession, re-reading, I picked up even more clues to the various mysteries & machinations that are entwined within.

The Quadren is made up of:

Al'Haidren to Boreal, Lady Luscia: Cunning, mystical warrior, compassionate, healer, badass heroine, yet sheltered & hiding a tragic past, bringing with her a war-tainted Wolx, Aksel, along with her Najjan, her personal elite guards.

Al'Haidren to Darakai, Zaethan: Overprotective, tormented, loyal, fierce, badass hero, sheltering a giant heart, but also a close-minded semi-racist.

Prince Dimitri, Royal Line of Thoarne lineage, he's sickly, yet a wise strategist, a realist & a compassionate level- headed individual, the glue to his future Quadren.

Al'Haidren to Bastiion, Ira: A skirt-chasing, party-loving, comedic lush intent on sampling all the pleasures of Bastiion... including Luscia, if she'd be so inclined.

Al'Haidren to Pilar, Lady Sayuri: stunning, sneaky, haughty, vicious & entitled place holder, aiming to snag a prince, and sowing discontent.

These are the Prince's future Quadren and they do NOT play well with each other, which makes it immensely entertaining as they get to know one another!

This is not a quick, popcorn read, this needs to be slowly savored as the world opens up. It's builds at first, with 1/3 dedicated to groundwork, though I wasn't put off with this, since there is so much to discover. Once things take off, hold on to your seat, for you'll be as enamored as I am. Once done, if you are like me, with further questions and theories, Kolarich has a fully immersive website to continue to learn about the world and political plays.

I cannot wait for to move on to the House of Darakai, for I know it will be as epic as this one!

New take on the history of Zeus, Posideon, & Hades

Revisado: 09-26-22

Debut Author Tati Alvarez has brought a new spin on an age-old tale of the Greek gods Hades, Posideon, and Zeus, and how they became immortal gods in the first place.

The story behind with the creation of Lillith, and then flips back and forth to the beginnings of the family of Kronos, his wife and their 3 sons was intriguing.
I thought Lilith was an interesting character, innocent in life as she may be, she's no pushover.
However, the story of Zeus as a baby until his teen years is heartbreaking & tragic, and I just wanted to hold him.
It ends on a revelation and more mystery to unravel, leaving me wanting more!
I'm looking forward to what happens in book 2!

Narration was good, but the discomfort was slower than I prefer. I turned up the speed some and I enjoyed it better.

Meg Anne is not only a brilliant writer, but an absolute genius when selecting a cast to bring her worlds to life!

The Keeper's Retribution is book 7 in The Chosen universe, but book 2 in this particular trilogy.

Keeper's Retribution kicks off right where book 6 left off and keeps barrelling along until the explosive mind-boggling ending!
Effie has many changes and revelations, Kieran's drama queen a$$ pulls some right strange antics, Lucian opens up, and Effie's relationship with Smoke, head of the Triumverate just gave me all the warm fuzzies! This scene in particular:

" “I have suffered through your pain, experienced these inexplicable cruelties as if they were my own . . .” She swung her legs off the side of the bed and stood.
Smoke spun to face her. “You’re supposed to stay in bed.”
“Shut up and come here,” she demanded.
He remained frozen in place.
“Fine, then. I’ll come to you.” She closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around Smoke’s middle, squeezing tightly. He stood awkwardly at first, his arms raised to the sides as if he was unsure what to do with them. “It’s called a hug. You must be familiar with it.”
“You are . . . offering me comfort?”
“You’re in pain,” she said simply. “This is what a friend does when someone they care about is hurting.” A shudder traversed the length of his tall frame, so she held onto him tighter. “But it is your pain I feel.”
“Then hug me back,” she challenged.
So he did."

When it comes to the threat to the world, the Shadows and Shadow- Touched, the corruption creeping across the lands? These are scary and the visions about them are scarier still.
Action, in-fighting, betrayals and twists just keep coming!

Meg Anne I'm convinced you are a hedonist in that you live for torturing us readers with your temporary endings!! I see you cackling with glee & tapping your fingertips as eReaders, books. and ear buds fly through rooms everywhere, as mine did with a resounding "NOOOOO!!" at this ending! I cannot WAIT for the next book, because what you did was WRONG!! 😱👀😱👀😱👀😱👀😱👀😱👀
(Keep it up sister!😘)
