Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Fun concept and story
Revisado: 01-17-25
Loved this! As others have pointed out, there is a Men in Black vibe, and there is room in the universe for more of that. I wish there was a sequel. I wish there was a whole series.

Satisfying conclusion
Revisado: 10-13-24
This was a very enjoyable series, and I'm a little sad that there won't be any more. Nell's journey ends in a most satisfying way.

Revisado: 05-05-24
I have listened to a lot of Scalzi and this is my favorite. It starts slow but once it takes off, I could barely turn it off. Loads of fun and lots of laughs. Highly recommended! Wil Wheaten is great as always.

Emotional rollercoaster
Revisado: 10-15-23
I love this series and its characters. I enjoy spending time at Coopers Chase. The main plot this time out is extremely intricate and I could not guess who the killer was before the reveal, for the best of reasons. Aside from the murders, two of the regular characters must decide how to face their mortality in this book. It was beautifully written, thought-provoking, and heart-wrenching, and I cried my way through those chapters. I appreciate the way the author is able to show how each character grows (at age 80-plus! hope for us all), and express alternative views through these characters. To me, this is the best kind of writing.

Impossible in audiobook format
Revisado: 09-30-23
First, I love the Cormoran Strike series. I have all of them in audiobook format, and I re-listen to them periodically. Troubled Blood was a little difficult to solve without access to the book's illustrations, but still very enjoyable. The Ink Black Heart is just hopeless without a printed copy of the text. Listening to the reading of "hashtag this, hashtag that" for a lengthy list of hashtags is tedious, but the deal-breaker is that there is no way for a listener to know which of the many of the chat sessions are taking place simultaneously. There is no way for a narrator to signal it, either. I was not confident the chats would be properly formatted in a Kindle edition, so I finally broke down and bought a print copy of the book. OMG, it makes such a difference! Certain relationships and event timelines in the story become instantly obvious. I went back and re-listened - nope, if I hadn't seen the print copy, I would not have known. If you want to listen, just assume that for any given moderator chat session, there is at least one other chat session taking place at the same time. This is not a spoiler because it is right there in the print version.

Classic mystery with a shocking twist
Revisado: 02-17-23
I first read this book some 40 years ago and was floored by the ending; never guessed the solution. It has been a real pleasure to listen to this version, which was beautifully narrated by Hugh Fraser. One of Christie’s very best.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.
