Historia
At the age of forty-eight, Cicero—the greatest orator of his time—is in exile, separated from his wife and children, tormented by his sense of failure, his great power sacrificed on the altar of his principles. And yet, in the words of one of his most famous aphorisms, “While there is life, there is hope.”

Great narrator - Poor story
Revisado: 04-19-25
Much similar to the second book of this series it’s very boring but it’s prose is simple enough that it is easily listened to and finished with easy.

Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Amazing narration and masterful character driven plot
Revisado: 03-13-25
Wonderfully distinct narration. Each character is clearly identifiable and in a character driven story this is priceless. Highly recommended all around

Old narrator voices young boy
Revisado: 03-08-25
Couldn’t get into this at all. Maybe it’s the performance of an old guy narrating a coming of age story or maybe it’s just I bounced off this story hard. Either way it’s very ok story. You’d have to love Viking historical fiction to enjoy it I feel and I’m merely a peruser of the subgenre.

Very good Roman political drama
Revisado: 03-03-25
Keep in mind this is complete fiction based on real people. It’s far from accurate and even it’s broader points feel off.
But this sort should not be measured by that. It’s fiction. Not only that it’s a very good court room drama and political drama. All with a Roman flair that I can imagine laymen will very much find exotic and enjoyable.
There is weird 10-15 second silent gaps in the audiobook book on random occasions. Usually near the end of a the chapter. But the performance of the narrator is great.

Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Great narrator ok story
Revisado: 03-01-25
The concept of this setting is great but it sort of does nothing with it. Skimming the surface of what could be greatness. Definitely recommended to urban fantasy fans.

Awful lip smacking narration. Ruined it
Revisado: 12-17-24
I can barely focus on the story as I hear the narrator breathing, his tongue moving around, and the smacking of his lips. The story was not interesting enough to survive this awful narrator.

Nothing happens. Again.
Revisado: 11-03-24
Plot points don’t seem to go again. Things are either forgotten about or not resolved. There is an over reliance on slice of life material. There is zero suspense in this spy novel. Like the previous entry in this “second trilogy” it’s just boring. I’m throwing in the towel. I won’t be continuing.

Disappointing. Boring.
Revisado: 11-03-24
Nothing happens. It’s a slice of life book disguised as a spy novel. There is hardly any spycraft in this book. This book isn’t bad it’s just boring. I’m entirely indifferent to it.

Decent history; Awful narrator
Revisado: 01-28-24
The narrators cadence is slow and it wears you down. So much so this is one of my first reviews on this app! He does this breath thing for the first 2/3s of the book - by the end you either can block it out or you have quit listening.
The book itself focuses more on the Anglo Saxon and Danish reign of pre-Norman rule than I would’ve liked but still find it enjoyable. Greater and more in depth examination of the early 12 century would’ve been appreciated.
