Historia
For cynical 23-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.

a Lot of Fun!

The two leads have amazing chemistry!
I was really enjoying the found family, and how they handled her blood relatives.
I learned a few things about LGBTQ+ history in America I didn't know before.
The parties in this book had me grinning the breakdown moments had me very engaged.
This is one of the rare times I liked all of the back ground characters enough to distinguish between them and remember their names.

Good needed refining (Contains Spoilers)

The name of the cat being "Voodoo" seems offensive since it's the name of a religion similar to Islam, Judaism, or even Christianity.
The fact that main character is christian is only shown at the beginning and end of the story if she was raised in a religious environment like she said, it should show more in her actions during the story.
The sage burning isn't catholic holy water is. Sage is used by spiritual practitioners such as natives and witches.
Please do more research. It'll show up quickly if you Google it.
The main characters were all described as handsome and beautiful which limited their character. Literally had to keep track of the 2 guys as handsome secretary and handsome detective. Give them defining features other than the color of their hair and eyes. I have no mental image of any of them and after finishing the book I forgot their names.
The nerd character didn't need to exist he did nothing to the story he could have been a no named land lord.
The romance was okay. I liked the dead girl she was fun sad to see her room being all pink and extremely boring even people who have pink rooms have some things that stand out at least a band, an animal, or art. Those add dimensions to their character.
Having the main character be saved was boring. A lot of stories that came before did this so it's expected, break our expectations.
The narrator was great, I enjoyed the voices they gave the characters. They made it very compelling.
