Has lots of good information about Armstrong and especially about the when, where and what of early recordings. The technical detail can be interesting but one wonders (as with many well after the fact analysis) how accurate the modern breakdown is vs musicians that were just playing what they feel. (His analysis tends to contradict his own "conclusions" of codified vs non-codified, a white vs black analysis of style)

Tends to head of in tangents about other musicians which many times has little to nothing to do with Armstrong's continued development. Also has a very selective interpretation of events of that time, painting with a very broad brush to his particular narrative only to have his personal conclusions contradicted with additional facts often presented in the next sentence or paragraph.

If you are really interested to learn some details about Armstrong which you would be hard to find anywhere else and can ignore the tangents and the personal interpretation of events, then a wade (a long tedious wade) is worth the time.

Where does Cartwright's Cavaliers rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Low

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cartwright's Cavaliers?

The end

Which scene was your favorite?

There were several

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No

Any additional comments?

This book is for pubescent boys, male teenagers and young male adults so it is filled with the main character's insecurity and self doubt. This is no big deal normally because life is what it is for young developing males. But the language is over the top. I just don't hear people talking with some many f-bombs etc. outside the cable channels. It does not develop the character nor advance the story (sex scene is forgivable when considering the target audience). The foul language is unnecessary and usually a technique used to cover up a short coming in talent (comedians, actors, authors, etc). The author has a good story if somewhat inaccurate in physics (syfy word, just go with the assumptions the author uses and don't worry about it is my motto). Cant listen to this with my wife or children in the car. So an other wise reasonably good story is marred by the pervading language. If you don't mind it, go for it. Otherwise I've warned you about it. JMO.

The Magic May Return Audiolibro Por Larry Niven, Fred Saberhagen, Dean Ing, Steven Barnes, Poul Anderson, Mildred Downey Brox

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

Niven has several excellent books/series. This is not one of them. It appears to be a series of short stories, some may have been written in an attempt to give the "book" some form of continuity. Would call this an "airport" book. If you have to kill some time sitting in the airport or in a plane and this book is the only interesting thing to be found in the terminal store......

Any additional comments?

I remember this book sitting on my bookshelf for many years. It was never re-read. Now I remember why.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Long winded way of getting through the story. More brevity would have been nice.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I found the concept intriguing and thought that there were (and there are) some interesting possibilities for the story line. However, for a brand new wizard who knows little to nothing about what he is doing, his spells reflecting the lack of knowledge and the consequences that go along with that fact, to suddenly whip up an advisor(s) who just happened to have the knowledge and knowhow. Inconsistent.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narration style was more of a dramatization. Distracting. A single narrator with a range of inflection is my preferred style.

Any additional comments?

May or may not get the second book. If I need a distraction from a particular genre' (clearing the reading palette as it were), then perhaps.
