Historia
No matter where one currently lives, "home" is the place where one was brought up. Our roots are mingled with those of friends who anchor lives and contribute to character. Thanksgiving Breakfast celebrates the lasting bonds of high school friendships in our changing world. It is a reverting story of hometown authenticity written in rich humor, and heartfelt emotion. It is filled with laughter and tears. This is a story that will resonate with Baby Boomers across the country.

If you are a regular audiobooks listener you know that the quality of the narration can greatly affect your listening experience. When I began listening to this book I struggled to settle into this narrator’s voice and style. His voice has a rugged quality that I think would be better suited to a western epic or military story. But it just seemed out of sync with the sensitive storylines and tender and emotional experiences of the characters. However, once I decided to push through, I was introduced fo a charming story about friendships and coming of age focused on a group of friends through the decades. The production is also surprisingly rough. There are several times throughout the recording that you can actually hear the readers break character to say that they want to start over. And you hear them re-read the passage. If you can get through these challenges you will be rewarded with the payoff of a good and meaningful story with a recurring Thanksgiving theme.

Historia
History remembers Robert F. Kennedy as a racial healer, a tribune for the poor, and the last progressive knight of a bygone era of American politics. But Kennedy's enshrinement in the liberal pantheon was actually the final stage of a journey that had its beginnings in the conservative 1950s. In Bobby Kennedy, Larry Tye peels away layers of myth and misconception to paint a complete portrait of this singularly fascinating figure.

Compelling and informative!
Revisado: 08-09-16
I was a very young child when Bobby was assassinated, but I remember the coverage very well. Larry Tye does an incredible job of supplying a fascinating backstory and introducing the audience to the RFK with whom most of us were likely not acquainted. A real "page turner" regardless of your political leanings or pro- or con-Kennedy stance.

Dark Christmas Tales
Revisado: 12-17-15
The performances on this selection were fine. However, I found the stories to be less than engaging and not very festive. These are not uplifting, spirited stories of the joys of Christmastime. If you're searching for that, I highly recommend "Favorite Stories of Christmas Past."

Not as Good as Volume 1
Revisado: 10-15-13
I have had Volume 1 of this collection for some time and enjoy listening to it each Halloween. I was very much looking forward to adding this book to my October listening tradition, however, I'm not sure that I will keep it in my Halloween book rotation. I have to admit that I am a little disappointed in the production value of Volume 2. In Volume 1 each story was separated by an appropriately spooky and brief musical interlude which allowed an opportunity to reflect on the previous story and prepare for the mystery and suspense of the upcoming piece. Unfortunately, the stories in Volume 2 jump awkwardly from one into the other without even a momentary pause. This is very disconcerting and detracts from the listening enjoyment. If you're trying to decide between the two volumes, spend your money or credits on Volume 1.

At Christmas time department stores overflow with color and festivity, their halls bedecked with the trimmings of the season. In these 7 charming, memorable, and even magical Christmas tales retiree Tom Cavanaugh wanders the aisles of just such a store. Tom has made a tradition out of observing the marvels the Christmas spirit brings to each department and the people in them, from a jolly old maintenance man to testy last-minute shoppers to an exhausted salesclerk.

Great stories...awful audio
Revisado: 12-09-11
I first owned this title several years ago on cassette. I loved listening to it every holiday season, but no longer had a cassette player in my car. I was thrilled to find it on Audible.com and immediately downloaded it. Unfortunately, the beautifully written and read stories suffer from the terrible audio quality. The voices of the readers, among them...Linda Purl, Efram Zimbalist, Jamie Farr and the wonderful singer Melissa Manchester, sound muffled and murky, really distracting from what should be a fun listening experience.

Downright Frothy
Revisado: 11-12-11
To describe this book as light reading is inadequate...it's so light it's downright frothy. I purchased this title 3 years ago because I enjoy reading seasonal books and was looking for something Thanksgiving-themed. As a previous reviewer wrote, the dialogue is definitely cheesy. It's also filled with tired clichés and characters speaking to each other in a manner found only in a high school writing course. Still, I've listened to it for 3 Thanksgiving seasons in a row...why? Because when Evanovich writes as the narrator rather than her characters, she provides vivid and inviting descriptions of Colonial Williamsburg, so charming and appealing you feel as if you were there, or at least you wish you were. It makes wading through all the cheese worth it.
