Historia
Meet Otto and Cecil. Two brothers who grew up privileged in the Welsh countryside. They enjoyed watching nature shows, playing with their pet pony, impersonating their Grandfather…and killing the help. Murder is the family business after all. Downton Abbey, this is not. However, it’s not so easy to continue the family legacy with the constant stream of threats and distractions seemingly leaping from the hedgerow.

The shock value counts for something, but not much
Revisado: 10-31-23
I’m a Palahniuk fan and am normally loathe to give a negative review to anything that a talented writer like him puts out there, if only because I truly appreciate the effort and am frankly not qualified to judge another’s work of art.
That said.
Sweet Jesus was this tedious. After hours and hours of hearing about Cecil & Otto’s depravities, it just got to be too much and I couldn’t wait for the inevitable point where they all burned themselves to the ground.
I mean, seriously, I get it. The point (if there really is one) is that literally everyone in this “story” is an asshole - they’re all “baby Joey’s” that the reader wishes someone would pluck off the mommy Kangaroo’s fur and mash under foot. Of course, in so doing, it tends to make the reader realize that they maybe they’re just as cruel as the protagonists. Kinda clever, but simultaneously boring af.

A solid addition to the ongoing story of Holly Gibney
Revisado: 10-13-23
The author has discussed his fascination with his character Holly on several occasions, and his love for her is apparent in this story. It’s a fun journey and while it was pretty obvious how it was all going to end, that didn’t make it any less enjoyable for me.

Historia
Fire. Wind. Pestilence. Earthquake. Drought. Lightning. These are the six Decimates, wielded by sorcerers for both good and evil. But a seventh Decimate exists - the most devastating one of all. For centuries, the realms of Belleger and Amika have been at war, with sorcerers from both sides harnessing the Decimates to rain blood and pain upon their enemy. But, somehow, in some way, the Amikans have discovered and invoked a seventh Decimate, one that strips all lesser sorcery of its power.

Classic Donaldson
Revisado: 06-29-19
The two things I have always admired about Donaldson's writing are the diction, and the manner in which his characters are simultaneously compelling and repellant. In Seventh Decimate, Prince Bifalt is a man driven with an unyielding purpose - to save his homeland. His single-mindedness makes him formidable but a thoroughly unpleasant person - a classic Donaldson protagonist.
Brick's narration is fantastic, though the urgency and tension with which he reads can sometimes get a bit tedious.

First Sandra Brown-Lived up to hype with exception
Revisado: 11-28-12
If you could sum up Lethal in three words, what would they be?
Detailed, intriguing, predictable
Who was your favorite character and why?
Stan - Dedication to his principles. His character was abrasive (as it was written to be) but love for his family caused him to have blinders on
What does Victor Slezak bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Liked his reading of the male characters. Found his reading of Emily to be annoying
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Honor talking to Stan and helping him to see the forest and not just the treees
