This struck me as YA
Revisado: 12-14-22
I’m a huge Sanderson fan, and this book is quality like the rest of his work. I do feel it’s a bit more geared to a younger audience, which I believe was the intention. I might have this as a starting point for older children so that I can hook them and graduate them to the more complex works that he’s done, like Stormlight archives. Still, I enjoyed the listen and the narrator was top notch.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

An interesting way to storytell
Revisado: 06-18-22
The book jumps between 3 time periods following different events, and I enjoyed how they connected together. It can be a bit stingy with the Lore but overall I’m hooked into the series. Not your typical sci fi/fantasy take.

Breaks the stereotypes
Revisado: 02-06-20
This book had a lot of twists, but it was mostly because it doesn’t do the predictable things this genre tends to do. Perfect for fantasy and sci-fi fans alike, and well performed as well.

How have I never heard of this?
Revisado: 03-05-19
I can’t believe I’ve never read this until now. Great story- the Steampunk tech is so rich, it draws you in. The performer not only has amazing voice acting, but manages to deliver dialogue with more expression than I’ve ever heard on an audio book. I’d actually seek out more by this performer just to hear him- he’s that good. Highly recommended if you are a fan of sci fi, adventure, or fantasy - or just good books well read.

Historia
Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

Military Tactics, Politics, bugs
Revisado: 02-19-19
More of an exploration of military life with a sci-fi twist. A lot of philosophy and political discussions, but a good story. Performance is nearly unlistenable- performer puts equal gusto into a grunt shouting orders or a female lead flirting with the protagonist - that is to say, very little. Still, finished it and don’t regret it.

Historia
Alex Verus is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London. And while Alex's own powers aren't as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future-allowing him to pull off operations that have a million-to-one-chance of success. But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever's inside must be beyond powerful.

Like Earth 2 for the Dresden Files
Revisado: 06-25-17
Great lore and great story, will definitely be continuing the series. The rules of magic in this world are a bit more flexible, and there are times where I didn't quite follow how certain things could happen within the rules the author had laid down, but those moments are vastly outweighed by the varied and colorful world portrayed in the story. I look forward to exploring all the roads that are opened up in this first installment.

Revisado: 02-23-17
Narrated well, this story isn't going to challenge you intellectually, but it has solid lore and a storyline that is somewhat predictable, but entertaining nonetheless.
