Tiresome
Revisado: 10-01-24
I appreciated the story, albeit a little far fetched. It could have been much shorter. There is a lot of restating of events and thoughts and it gets tiresome.

Historia
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better.... Her grumpy but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas.

I love the way this author creates lovable characters and positive messages, I was surprised by the number of times that I laughed out loud. I will definitely be ready more by this author.

Historia
Lexie Sinclair yearns for more than her parents’ genteel country life. She makes her way to the city, where she meets a magazine editor, Innes, a man unlike any she has ever imagined. He introduces her to the thrilling world of Bohemian postwar London, and Lexie learns to become a reporter, to know art and artists, to live fully, unconventionally, and with deep love. And when she finds herself pregnant by a man wholly unsuitable for marriage or fatherhood, she doesn’t hesitate a minute to have the baby on her own.

Exhaustive Detail
Revisado: 12-05-22
It took time to become engaged with the story. The author has a habit of using an exhaustive amount of detail as of she is directing a screenplay. It can be more distracting than beneficial and certainly could have been shorter.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-26-22
This could have been better. The premise was good, and I feel that’s where it stopped. I found it to be painfully slow and often hard to follow. I recognize this is partially due to the author’s attempt to show the scattered thinking of the elderly characters but I feel the narrator could have helped with appropriate pauses or even a breath.
The ending was supposed to be climactic but was so poorly explained that it fell flat. I would have preferred a story completely focused on the two sisters and their journey. The younger characters felt unnecessary and the book ends with no resolution for them which is as unsatisfying as their storyline.

Historia
Karen Cushman's Newbery Honor-winning book tells the story of a medieval girl who works to avoid the marriage her father has arranged for her during her 14th year. Contained in this program is Catherine's diary - Catherine, called Little Bird or Birdy, daughter of Rollo and the lady Aislinn, sister to Thomas, Edward, and the abominable Robert. Against a vivid backdrop of everyday life on a medieval English manor, Catherine's earthy, spirited account of her fourteenth year is a richly entertaining story with an utterly unforgettable heroine.

Historia
It is 1940 and William, 12, Edmund, 11, and Anna, nine, aren't terribly upset by the death of the not-so-grandmotherly grandmother who has taken care of them since their parents died. But the children do need a guardian, and in the dark days of World War II London, those are in short supply, especially if they hope to stay together. Could the mass wartime evacuation of children from London to the countryside be the answer?

Heartfelt and satisfying
Revisado: 09-04-22
This is a touching story. I loved the dynamics between the three siblings and the way they cared for one another through this difficult time.
I found myself tearing up at various parts of the story, some out of sorrow for what the children experienced, and some out of joy when they were treated with the care they deserved, yet never expected.
The narrator did a wonderful job of keeping the character voices consistent. I always appreciate an audiobook that is performed rather than just read. This was very well performed.

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Perfection
Revisado: 04-27-22
If I could give this book 10 stars I would. This is so well written and beautifully told. The author’s descriptions of the feelings that Kya experiences are exquisite. This story had me emotionally connected to the characters from beginning to end.

Perfect Performances
Revisado: 03-01-22
I cannot emphasize enough how worth it it is to have the audiobook version of this. The performances bring so much to the story, which is fantastic as well. I couldn’t even call this “reading”, they are truly performing. Bravo. Well done.
