Historia
On Christmas Eve, DCI Mackenzie Jones is called to a shooting at a remote farmhouse. Ralph Mallender believes his father lies dead inside. When three more bodies are discovered, it's clear a festive family gathering has turned into a gruesome tragedy. At first it seems like an open and shut case: a murder suicide committed by Ralph's volatile brother Cameron. Then new evidence makes Mack suspect the man who reported the crime is in fact the perpetrator. But Mack isn't the only one with a stake in the case.

Great story
Revisado: 12-13-20
I know a book is really good when I can’t stop thinking about the characters. When I want to go back and read more. Think this is one of Joy Ellis’ best.

I really enjoyed this story. I never really want a good read to end. This was especially true with this one. It had quite a bit of action and intrigue.

Good story!
Revisado: 10-30-20
I had one problem with the story, and it was the editing. A scene was often changed with new characters without a pause. It was a little confusing.

I loved this book. The background stories of all the characters culminating in their becoming friends, could not have been written better. Maeve Binchy’s books always make me happy. This one especially so.

Detective Robyn Carter is reminded of the crucifixion, and she knows she’s looking for a killer with a twisted sense of right and wrong. Robyn vows she will find the killer - no matter what. But then a local doctor - a popular woman with a young family of her own - is found dead outside her surgery. Completely hooked
Revisado: 06-16-18
I truly enjoyed reading this series. I ate up every last bit of each book. I didn’t want it to end, and was glad to have the epilogue. I am hooked on her stories and most certainly on Emma Newman’s performance. She is wonderful with her many distinctive accents. I can’t wait to read more in the series.

Revisado: 05-13-17
"The Verdict" was the best book I have read or listened to in years. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next I was wrong. There were so many twists and turns and unexpected events. The characters were perfect. The story was perfect. The performance was perfect.

Historia
Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

Best Ending Ever
Revisado: 09-06-16
As usual the story was great. I can't get over how David Rosenfelt comes up with so many different plot lines. Grover Gardner did a great job with the nuances of the speech patterns of the various characters. But the best part is the ending.
