Empty Calories, But A Serial For Hardcore Fans Only
Revisado: 02-06-25
Characters can only be as smart as the person writing them, and that is on full display here. Hats off to the author for writing about something he obviously enjoys, and the concept is held loosely together by very frayed threads, but I do believe the reader will have enough fun if you enjoyed the first book. For anyone else reading, the one dimensional characters and caricature personalities will fall flat. It's almost impossible to actually care about what happens to any of these characters at all, and ultimately feels like a book written by an author who tried to imagine what his immediate friends would be okay with. If you enjoyed it, don't let me stop you. if you didn't, I understand only too well.

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Compelling Idea, Weighed Down By Clunky Scenes
Revisado: 12-04-24
Interesting, if rushed, characters in a world that is easy enough to suspend disbelief in for awhile. Some one dimensional characters with hollow motivations, prisoners with no brains, characters complaining about dead names in the literal apocalypse, but performances and sound effects that elevated the story.

The Merry Band of Pirates stopped the enemy from stealing a Sentinel, and destroyed its Elder starship, so why weren’t the Pirates planning a victory party? The enemy was not what they thought it was. It was much, much worse.

Disappointing and unrealistic.
Revisado: 09-20-24
Out of character actions by the main characters and unbelievable abilities of the protagonist. Nearly every action by the outsider was a defeat or I’ll use the work again, “unbelievable” action that was unsupported by revealed history. Omniscience and our thinking of our heroes was beyond belief. The ending of the book was lacking more than a “to be continued….” 50’s sci-fi series.

In sports, everybody loves redemption stories, the underdog who no one believes in but through sheer hard work wins it all. But no one tells the stories of the players who work hard and don’t make it. In pro football, 53 guys get on the roster. Ten make it to the practice squad. And then there’s the 64th Man - that’s Billy Logan (Cena), who seems to always be one spot from glory.

John Cena rocked the character. Every voice character was spot on. The experience was fun to listen to and the story never ceased to keep me invested.
From the beginning to end, this book is worthy of your time and attention. Kudos to Mr. Cena and every actor on their personification of each and every character.

The telling of the unspectacular
Revisado: 12-29-22
A story of a spineless character who kind of saves the day while continuing to see getting crapped on by everyone else as a virtue. Who could possibly relate or root for this character who never actually has some trait to cheer on, or even care about? It feels like a story from an author who either sees himself as this character who deserves to save the day through sheer happenstance, and without actual growth. Good performance, pass on spending credits.

Someone left a review that it felt a bit racist/homophobic, which seemed to have come from someone without a sense of humor. The jokes were awesome enough that I wished there were more episodes, there was so much potential here!

Yawnnnn
Revisado: 11-16-20
I was hoping for more action not day time soap. Way too much; who will betray whom and not enough protagonist let’s get it done action. Even when the “hero” succeeded it was questionable as to who was the victor? Spent more time learning about drug use and living with the aid of pharmaceuticals.
Wish more time was spent on antagonist vs hero and his compatriots. Listening to the characters inner voice of: should I turn left and duck or stay and not engage, seemed to be the running narrative rather than the story moving forward.
Gave it listen to the end in hopes of accomplishing a culmination/victory. Sadly the end of the story was foreshadowed and not a surprise or satisfying.

A story to nowhere.
Revisado: 07-08-20
I listened to the story in hopes something, anything of a story might reveal itself. Instead the plot rambled on without any direction or closure. The heroine had plenty of chances to rise above and or endear herself to the reader but instead let the story just fade away. Sorry. But I wouldn’t recommend this book even if it was free.

Disjointed and hollow
Revisado: 02-16-20
The new and improved DMS/Havoc was “always” a step behind and outsmarted by inferior technology. The story’s bad guys were seemingly invincible and limitless. Ledger’s inability to recognize what is an obvious bad guy inserted into the story at the last minute got old. Also Joe being a truly ultimate tough guy and his inability to overcome a nemesis “due to the untimely intervention of a distraction” was frustrating.
The story ended, I won’t do spoilers, on a sour note. Whereas I was eagerly waited for the next book, I don’t have that same wish after this listen.
