This book has technical language in it and if you concentrate on that you will lose focus on the book. Just focus on interaction and story. It is expertly written!! Loved it.

What a great start to this world!

I was so excited to read this book. I do love PNR. The beginning made it a bit hard to sink into the book but quickly you find out why all that was necessary. I enjoyed the twist with the guild. Julie has a hit and the beginnings of a great PNR world. Can’t wait for book 2. Oh! Also love the dual narrative POV with all the main characters. It’s my favorite way to listen to audiobooks. I guess if I had to put a critique it would just be that Paul’s voice doesn’t seem to fit the character either when he’s being sinister or when he’s being charismatic. He’s seems to be reading with emotion rather than being the character. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, the book a great. I definite recommend reading it.

So worth it!!!

The narrators are fantastic!! They really bring the story to life. I found myself unable to stop listening. Laughing, heart beating wildly or crying throughout the entire book. I have read all the books and really loved this one. I recommend all their books! Just enough angst and steam to keep me totally engaged. Can’t wait for the next one!

Difficult story to get through but worth it!

The world in which this takes place is unforgiving and ruthless. The characters are just as evil as the ones in mafia stories or paranormal enemies books. The big difference is the sensitive nature of the human trafficking/sex trafficking. It is uncomfortable but it’s supposed to be. It’s revolting and sadistic but it’s supposed to be. The author pulls you in with the grit and determination of Anya and the brutal nature of Cort. There is genius in the weaving of this tale because underneath it all the abused are the strongest of them all not despite their abuse but because of it. I particularly liked that, instead of a front row seat to the abuse, we are exposed to it as fuzzy dreams which distances us from the horrors while giving us what we need to understand how the character was shaped by it. And we get them in bite sized chunks that are easier to digest. It was well written. I applaud J A Huss for her strength to tackle a sensitive subject and being able to highlight the beauty in the darkness.
