Reminds me of the Hardy Boys

This first book in the series has the feel of old youth fiction. It reminded me of the Hardy Boys or Chip Hilton….so maybe I am showing my age. Exercise is described as doing calisthenics, and the details of a couple hooking up amounted to “a sexy weekend” as the description. This is a story that predictably ambles along…. Without a lot of reasoning. Not much of an encouragement for me to move to book 2.

Lots of Fluff

I have an extra star, just because of Grisham’s past great books. All 3 audible readers were great. Just not much by way of story. You can do work and multitask while listening to this.

I so enjoyed this! Reviews that complain about politics and simplicity of Amazon are missing just the sheer enjoyment of a story. I hope you escape into it like I did!

Better With Lowered Standards

Many of the reviews mention the difference in Reacher’s character. I can’t disagree. But, if you try not to compare this Reacher to the original, this is a good enough story. I will buy the next book too and just keep my standards lowered. Plus, Scott Brick could read a phone book and make it enjoyable.

Really strange Characters

I have not missed a book in the series. But, I am growing more disappointed with the recent books. I enjoyed the familiarity of Angel and Louis but they are now different characters. Plus, Charlie Parker bears no resemblance to his past books. Does whoever wrote this book truly expect me to believe that Parker, after almost being blown up, just makes a call and goes home. Really? This book bears little resemblance to earlier in the series, except the names.

I have always thought of Grisham as a master story teller. I would describe this book as a series of events without much of a story. I finished it…. Still thinking there would be something that was a story ending. Not so much.

Teen Story

I think if you are a Grisham’s Boone series fan, you will enjoy this. Not so much if you enjoy adult fiction. I don’t mind suspending disbelief, which is why it grabbed me in the first few chapters as political intrigue. I did finish it but the story was weak. Not a series to continue for me.
