Historia
Sami Kierce, a young college grad backpacking in Spain with friends, wakes up one morning, covered in blood. There’s a knife in his hand. Beside him, the body of his girlfriend. Anna. Dead. He doesn’t know what happened. His screams drown out his thoughts—and then he runs. Twenty-two years later, Kierce, now a private investigator, is a new father who’s working off his debts by doing low level surveillance jobs and teaching wannabe sleuths at a night school in New York City. One evening, he recognizes a familiar face at the back of the classroom. Anna.

Sooo Good!

I need the next one NOW. Not to mention the narrator — he has a Jensen Akles sound and I could listen to him read a phone book. This is how all audiobooks should be!

Historia
Zo Grey is reeling from the sudden death of her mother when she receives a surprising call from an attorney in Divinity, Louisiana, with the news she has been left an inheritance by a distant relative, the terms of which he will only discuss in person. Destitute and alone, with nothing left to lose, Zo heads to Divinity and discovers she is the sole beneficiary of a huge fortune and a monstrosity of a house that sits ominously at the peak of Watch Hill—but she must live in it, alone, for three years before the house, or the money, is hers.

I HATE this new trend
Revisado: 10-27-24
I absolutely hate books that stop abruptly in the middle of a story. It's a total money grab and it's disgusting. A trilogy or series doesn't mean you just stop half way through a random chapter. Absolutely nothing happened in this book. I think I just paid for a prelude to a story. Unbelievable. If Stephen King had published books this way, he'd be the richest man on the planet. I, for one, am happy he believed in telling an entire story in every book. PS - that includes a beginning, middle, and end for those authors writing like Moning. If you feel the need to divide ONE story into several separate segments in order to put more dollars in your pocket, please do your audience a favor and make it a podcast or comic book where that unfulfilling experience is more expected and appropriate. What a waste of time and money.

Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

What was that?!?
Revisado: 07-15-24
This was one of the worst books I've ever finished in audible. Nothing ever happens. They just keep playing the same scene over and over and then it just ends. So so so boring and slow. I cannot recommend this story - unless you like books with no plot read for you by an adult that sounds like a four year old. Awful.

Overused plot done well
Revisado: 05-26-24
I recently read a book that followed nearly this exact story line. I can't remember the title but it was people on an island trying to outlast each other. It's a very common plot line so the story didn't feel very unique or particularly interesting. That said, it did hold my interest the entire time and Ruth's characters always come to life on the page so it was definitely a good story and more than worth the credit despite the overused plot. As for Imogen, I absolutely love her as a narrator but like other reviewers have said, the mispronunciation of "insulin" 5,000 times in this book almost made me shut it off. I would be happy to blame it on her accent but it was a VERY intentional mispronunciation-- ironically when she said the word in a French accent she said it correctly -- it was clear she knows how the word should sound and was just lazy and careless reading of a word she stumbles with. And again, it was said A LOT and every time I heard it, it was like nails on a chalkboard and broke the flow of the story for me. Disappointing read by IC that's for sure. Again, while that drove me slowly insane, I do recommend the book to anyone that likes RW's other books... you may just want to read it to yourself on your Kindle!

Historia
Jeremy Ivester is a transgender man. Thirty years ago, his parents welcomed him into the world as what they thought was their daughter. As a child, he preferred the toys and games our society views as masculine. He kept his hair short and wore boys’ clothing. They called him a tomboy. That’s what he called himself. By high school, when he showed no interest in flirting, his parents thought he might be lesbian. At 20, he wondered if he was asexual. At 23, he surgically removed his breasts.

Great quick read
Revisado: 05-01-24
Something drew me to this book from the second I read its description a few months ago. I rarely pre-purchase a book before it's available but in this case I did and the book did not disappoint. While I wasn't surprised by the ending, the story held my interest throughout and I blew through it in one day. It's a great book to use as an escape - light enough read that you aren't going to miss something if a child interrupts you to ask what's for dinner when you're in the middle of chapter nine -- but a great story with a core group of characters and enough mystery to keep the plot moving steadily forward without every becoming dull or repetitive. Some of my favorite narrators read it too so that made a great story even better. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to more from this author. Worth the credit and your time!

Good story but age is OFF
Revisado: 02-16-24
The story is good and a worthwhile listen but I think the author should have spent some time with a 77 year old. Maybe 20 years ago, a 77 yo wouldn't know how to use a cell phone or Facebook, etc. but now?? The great majority have this covered. And a woman thinking she's lost in the mall simply for shopping alone?? The character is 77 not 97!! It was very hard to get into the story because the author made this poor woman completely helpless. Not sure how old Olivia Ford is but I'm guessing 77 is REEEEAAAALLY far away for her.

Excellent story and narration! A+++
Revisado: 02-15-24
Use your credit and download this one immediately. You won't regret it. I am rarely drawn to historical fiction but trusted this would be decent knowing that I love all of Kristin Hannah's work. This one definitely did not disappoint and I'm certain it will be one of my top reads in 2024 for sure. The fact that it focuses on such strong female characters made this a home run. So often women are portrayed as weak, whiney, and desperate for a man's love in books - I feel like it's been getting worse recently too. Francis and her friends felt like a "we can do it" poster ripped right from a wall and you can't help but feel proud to be a women when reading this book. Another great story by KH. Download it now!

Great book - bad MA accent
Revisado: 02-13-24
It would have been great to hear someone from MA sound like they were from MA instead of wherever the heck that one was from. It made it hard to get into. The first half read like a YA novel but the last three hours made the whole book worth it. Worth the credit as it kept me entertained.
