Aside from the unfortunate title, the concept for this book seemed interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. I now know that it was quite the bad idea, and feel cheated. After hours of Emma whining, being highly judgemental over even the most trivial of things, going off half-cocked without thinking or using common sense, and ultimately being an immature adolescent in an adult's body, I finally get to the end of the book and run across a cliffhanger. The author may have resolved most things in the book, either by explanation or setting an expectation that some issues are being looked into, but then a blast from the past shows up in the last few sentences in the book and leaves a gaping hole in the story line. I was already annoyed with the poor execution of the ONE actual sex scene, and irritating main female in the book, but thought I'd give the series a second chance. Until the cliffhanger, and HELL no am I going to even consider reading book 2 in the series now. I feel robbed and like I wasted hours of my time on this book. Do yourself a favor and avoid this book like the plague if you do not like cliffhangers. In fact, go read Twilight. it's a much better book than this one could ever hope to become.

Any additional comments?

Okay, so we all know the lore, right? Vampires drink blood, can't go out into the sun or they'll burst into flames, do not have reflections in mirrors, and they sleep in coffins, etc... Well, in Kerrelyn Sparks' world of vampires, these are definitely the case, but there's so much more. Roman Dragonesti, a 500+ year old former monk turned vampire, is one of the most brilliant scientists in modern times. And, since inventing synthetic blood in the late 80's, he and his kind have sworn off biting humans. Well... Except for a small faction of malcontents who call themselves "The True Ones", but I digress...

Roman loses a tooth during a business meeting (you'd think he'd lose his head instead, right?), and has to race against time in order to have it replaced before the end of the night and his body permanently seals the hole. Queue Shanna Whelen, the night dentist at the SoHo So Brite Dental clinic. The problem is that Shanna is in the Witness Protection program after recently witnessing a mob hit in a restaurant she was dining at. And, the killers just tracked her down, minutes before Roman shows up at her office door. Oh! And, then there's the teeny tiny issue of Shanna being hemophobic; meaning she has a phobia about blood, as in she faints at the sight of it. Yet, she's a dentist.

So, Roman shows her the tooth he needs replaced, and she instantly thinks he's off his rocker because it's actually a fang. Or, what she believes: a wolf's fang. She immediately rejects doing the procedure and then all hell breaks loose. The mob finds her place of business and shoots up the clinic's storefront, she ends up seeing blood and faints on Roman, and he still needs his tooth replaced.

It will take a bit of work getting her to do the procedure (and she eventually does, so yay for Roman). Then, they have to deal with why the mob is after Shanna, and finding out that her dad is actually in the CIA on a top secret covert team called The Stake Out team, tasked with wiping out the entire vampire race. Shanna and Roman, in the midst of all this drama, develop strong feelings for each other and eventually fall in love. But, can the two endure everything that is going on? Is it even possible for a vampire and human to have a relationship in the first place? You'll just have to buy the book and read for yourself.

Altho ultimately not my cup of tea, this book really is suspenseful, dramatic, sexy, and very romantic. I was not aware that it contained BDSM. Not that it disgusts me, but it is not tittilating to me. For the right listener/reader, this book could easily end up in their top 10 favorites. The author has created quite the intricate world, and certaily knows how to write damaged, tortured characters. They are well done, deeply wounded, highly passionate, and very human. Yes, there was the occasional use of some flowery synonyms for genetalia (which was a bit hard for me to take seriously), but all in all, if you're looking for a BDSM romance, do take the time to listen or read this book. You may just like it.

It was a cute story, but I won't be continuing on with this series. Think I'll stop at book 1.

The description intrigued me, and I thought the book would be fun. Also, the amazing Greg Tremblay narrates it. HOWEVER, not even Greg Tremblay can save this book. It's pretty rubbish. *long sigh* Can't even finish it, it's that bad. Lame.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed, I cried... Got made fun of by the hubby for doing these... But, that is part of what is awesome about this book. Something written this well, that sucks you in and makes you feel these emotions is magical. Add in the great vocal performance by Vanessa Chambers and the story is brought to life in a wonderful way.

Any additional comments?

Hot, sexy, sweet, & all kinds of fun to read. Fans of Laurann Dohner's New Species books will not be disappointed by this 13'th addition to the series.

Thinking she was going to get away for a romantic weekend at a hotel, Vanni is shocked to learn that she instead was tricked by her fiance into attending a rally against New Species. After being admonished for inadvertently speaking to a member of the press, she is told to go up to her room and stay there 'til breakfast the next morning. Instead of listening to her fiance, Vanni decides they are over and needs a drink so she heads to the hotel bar. Lost in her own world, Vanni heads straight for the bar, sits on a stool, and waits for the bartender to take her order, not noticing the tall man sitting next to her. Smiley clears his throat to get her attention and they strike up a conversation. Things are going well until Vanni starts feeling a bit off and Smiley realizes that their drinks have been spiked with the Breeding drug.

With everyone assuming Vanni drugged them both, how can she convince the sexy New Species that it wasn't her? How did the Breeding drug get outside Mercile and into the hands of humans? Make sure to get the book and find out. It's worth the read!

What would have made One Plus One better?

Where do I start? Aside from the narration, which was fantastic, everything else was practically garbage. Not even the poorly slapped together "happy ending" made me feel better about the book. It was such a chore listening to this book. The only reason why I soldiered on with this audiobook is that it has an average of 4.5 stars & I hoped it would get better. It didn't, until the very end. Even at that, it was lame and carelessly put together.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jojo Moyes again?

Abso-flippin'-lutely not. Nope, nope, nope, nope, and nope. Never.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All 4 narrators put passion and true acting skill into their performance. The voices matched with the characters, and you could hear the emotions in their voices. All around amazing for each one of them. Also, I have no clue how they could actually make it thru narrating this book without needing therapy from it being so completely depressing.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, the narrators. That's about it.

Any additional comments?

If you have any depressive triggers, run as far away as you can from this book. It starts out bleak and gets even more depressing as the chapters go past. There is nothing redeeming about this book, other than the narrators. Nothing.
