Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Fun Story with a Great Narrator
Revisado: 10-19-24
This is a quick listen, but a complete story with a satisfying ending. The narrator is amazing.

YA that's still interesting for OA
Revisado: 09-06-24
I've long since graduated from a Young Adult to an Old Adult and I find that I've lost interest in the same old tropes of YA fiction. I picked up this one because I've liked other Drew Hayes books and a super dog sounded interesting. I was pleased to find that not only does it have the optimistic feeling I like in YA, but it does so while not treating the reader like they're dumb. There were intriguing glimpses into the world that kept me curious and excited to see what comes next.

Jamie Goldberg is cool with volunteering for his local state senate candidate - as long as he’s behind the scenes. When it comes to speaking to strangers (or, let’s face it, speaking at all to almost anyone) Jamie’s a choke artist. There’s no way he’d ever knock on doors to ask people for their votes...until he meets Maya. Maya Rehman’s having the worst Ramadan ever. Why her mother thinks the solution to her problems is political canvassing - with some awkward dude she hardly knows - is beyond her.

Great Characters
Revisado: 08-28-20
I really liked this book even though politics and teen romance aren't my favorite. It has truly interesting characters that kept me invested in them through the entire story. The romance was a little painful at times, but mostly because of how well it captures what it's like to be in love when you're 17. The politics are extremely polarized (democrats are good and wholesome, republicans are evil racists), but, strangely, it didn't feel preachy. It felt like looking at things through the un-jaded eyes of a teenager. And there were good and bad things from characters on both sides.
At its heart, this is a story about family and friendship, and it left me feeling happy and warm inside.

Historia
As Murmur reels in the wake of the secret her friends tried to keep, her grip on what is real and what is virtual begins to slip. What's more, she's no longer sure whom she can trust. Stalked across the continent by a rogue with a vendetta, Murmur is forced to dig deep and develop her abilities before she finds a knife in her back. Suspicion surrounds the AIs as well. Their behaviors are too human, their reports too perfect. Shayla and Laria must uncover the truth before the system raises concerns and Murmur is lost forever.

Don't think too hard about motivations.
Revisado: 06-14-19
I liked the GameLit portions of the book and looked forward to seeing the advancement there. For the rest of it, as long you don't worry about WHY the characters are feeling or acting the way they do, then it's fine.
The narrator is really great.

I feel like I can take control of my habits
Revisado: 06-26-18
Beyond the thrill of learning something new, I feel like I've learned something important. It's more than the easy promise of a quick fix (which this book does not give); I feel like I now have real and powerful tools to take control of the habits in my life.

Pretty much everything. Just ask Brit, who has jumped around in time with such abandon that she has to coexist with multiple versions of herself. A stellar performance by an amazing narrator
Revisado: 05-28-18
I'm sure I would have liked the Black Ocean series if I had found it on a bookstore shelf, but the performance by Mikael Naramore made me fall in love with it. For me, it didn't quite scratch that Firefly itch, but that's OK because, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I'd watch a Black Ocean TV series over Firefly any day of the week.

Historia
My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

Phenomenal narrator

I was a little confused and frustrated that the middle four stories were not about good old Jeeves, but followed completely different characters. I think I would have liked those stories better if I'd known to expect them.

Historia
Before the movie, this is the novel that gave life to Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John, Hot Lips Houlihan, Frank Burns, Radar O'Reilly, and the rest of the gang that made the 4077th MASH like no other place in Korea or on earth. The doctors who worked in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals (MASH) during the Korean War were well trained but, like most soldiers sent to fight a war, too young for the job. In the words of the author, "a few flipped their lids, but most of them just raised hell, in a variety of ways and degrees."
